We stood still. The silence deafened me. All that I could hear was the beating of our heart beats and the heavy breathing from each other. Mona slowly turned her head to face me. I was so scared of what she had to say. But what was worse was that she just stood there. Staring at me. I could see she has tears threatening to come and stream out of her eyes. But I could tell she knew something. What though? I could tell she was fighting to keep something a secret. She was straining her face from many different feelings.

"Don't pick up my phone again. OK?" she said sternly. I could tell that there was anger in her voice. But there was a little quiver when she said it.

"But you weren't there to pick it up and it could be important-" I started.

"Don't even start," Mona cut in. Then she went out. What just happened? If that really was Angela then why was her number not added into Mona's phone? Wait! That's it! Angela's phone number wasn't added into Mona's phone. So what is going on between them? I didn't even have time to think. Angela's car was turning onto the drive. This was the time when I found out the truth that has been strangely nagging at me ever since. It was now or never.

There was a nock on the door. And I knew that nock.

"Hello! It's me!" Angela called from the other side of the door. I ran to it as fast as I could. I was ready to explode with questions when something stopped me. Something right in front of me. Angela. She was smiling and looked like she was joking around but I wasn't even taking in half of what she was saying. Why was she this happy? I mean... I'm glad she's fine. But, if I was attacked on the M1, I wouldn't be so happy.

"Brianna? Brianna?" Angela repeated my name and shook me to my senses again.

"Sorry, my mind just went blank for a second," I lied, "but come in. It must be cold out there."

Angela came in with a quick glance at me as if saying 'are-you-sure-you're-alright'. I shouted to Mona to tell her that Angela was here.

"I'll be in in a second!" Mona shouted from the kitchen.

"So? What's going on?" Angela asked. How was I supposed to answer that?

"Urm... surprise!?" I said with a little edge to my voice and my arms out as if I wanted a hug. Just then Mona came to the entrance of the kitchen.

"Sorry about this Angela. This is a surprise homecoming party. We first thought about it when we went to Brianna's brother's and my sister's swimming competition thing. Hey! Brianna, why don't you fill Angela in on that? Not that we watched loads of it," Mona added with a laugh. I let out a weak smile as I realised what Angela and I were really going to talk about.

"So, who won?" Angela asked.

"What?" I said. I sounded like an idiot.

"The swimming race, who won?" Angela repeated herself.

"Right urm. Some random guy," I say like I don't care because really, I don't.

"Is there something else you would rather talk about?" Angela asked, reading my mind.

"Yes, well, no not really but it's something that needs to be said if you know what I mean. So, well, Mona and I got a phone call from you and-" I started.

"I never called you," Angela put in.

"Yes you did. Your number was ringing Mona's phone," I said uncertainly. Was it a different number?
