A catchy beat hit my ears and I cracked open an eye.
Calum had picked up a guitar from the stage and began to strum along with the melody echoing from the speakers.
After a small interlude, Calum leaned towards the mic and began to sing.
"Take me back to the middle of nowhere, back to the place only you and I should remember all the memories, the fireflies and make-believe..."
I was speechless.
Everyone seemed just as surprised as I was, and some people started to sway back and forth to the rhythm.
Everyone, that is, except for the groom, who was angrily whispering to to two burly looking men in suits.
"So we're taking the long way home, cause I don't wanna be wasting my time alone..."
I had to get us out of here.
Weaving through the guests, I casually sidestepped onto the stage.
Calum kept playing the guitar, but he pulled his mouth away from the microphone and whispered, "Come to join me?"
"Hahaha, no. We have to get out of here or they'll throw us out," I whispered back, discreetly pointing at the scary men.
"Fine. I'll be done in a minute," he replied as the melody picked up and he started singing again.
Fuming, I glanced back at the two men, and they were making their way to the front.
Panicking, I unclipped one end of the guitar strap that was looped around Calum's torso and carefully put it down on the floor.
I pushed Calum out of the way, taking the mic.
"Sorry to cut that lovely performance short, but we have to be going," I half-shouted into the mic, shoving Calum towards the door. The men were almost at the stage now.
Calum finally seemed to realize that we were in grave danger, and sprinted to the exit, pulling me behind him.
"Hey! You two! Get back here!" yelled one of the men, both of them in hot pursuit.
Calum just laughed and called back, "Not a chance!"
We ran and ran until we found ourselves back at the fountain.
I collapsed in the grass nearby, Calum plopping down next to me, both of us breathing heavily.
Calum suddenly burst out laughing. "That was awesome!"
I just glared at him, pretending I could stab him with my vision.
"What? You have to admit, that was pretty fun," he said, still laughing.
I just kept staring.
"Aw, come on Heaven," he pouted, crossing his arms.
I couldn't keep it in any longer after that, and I burst into a fit of laughter.
"It was funny," I gave in, picking at a strand of grass.
We flopped down on our backs, just looking at the clouds in silence. Not the awkward kind of silence, the nice kind.
As I stared up at the clouds, I felt something warm brush my hand.
I froze.
Did Calum just touch my hand?
I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. After a few seconds, he noticed me looking at him.
"What?" he asked.
"Oh, uh, nothing. I should go. I think my mom wants me home for dinner, and yeah, so see you at school on Monday," I rambled, embarrassed.
Calum looked confused. "Everything okay?"
"Sure, yeah, it's fine. I should just be getting home," I continued, making a fool out of myself.
"Alright... do you want me to walk you home?" he asked kindly.
"No, no it's fine, I'm fine. See you!" I hurriedly walked down the path that led to my house.
As I walked over our lawn to the front door, my mind was racing.
Was he trying to hold my hand? Or did he just brush it by accident? Or did I just imagine the whole thing?
Calum P.O.V.
As I stood up and brushed the grass of my pants, I sighed.
Did I do something wrong?
I really, really liked Heaven. She was beautiful. Her shyness just made her even cuter, and her smile was amazing. I was mesmerized when she laughed earlier. When we were laying on the grass, I wanted to try and hold her hand, but I was so nervous that she'd be weirded out. When I finally got up the guts to do it, I thought I saw her turn her head towards me, so I pulled away, and accidentally touched her hand. My fingers instantly felt warm for that split second.
But why did she leave? Did I freak her out? Or did she just not like hanging out with me?
Or did I just imagine the whole thing?
Hey guys! I really enjoyed writing this chapter. Although it gave me the FEELS. Comment on what you think Calum and Heaven's ship name should be! (And no, it's never too early for a ship name ;P) By the way, 5SOS doesn't exist in this fanfic, but Calum still likes to sing and I wanted to use Long Way Home, soooo yeah! Stay beautiful xo
