after exploring the hotel for a bit and grabbing a few souvenirs from the gift shop, i decided to look for my brother and the rest of his team.

not every player on the team has arrived at the hotel yet, but most of them have.

there were many restaurants in the hotel. i'm guessing the one my brother was in was the one with the group of twenty-year old men gathered at a table.

i decided to walk over to the table to meet the Portugal team. even though i never really watched football (until now), i've always been a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. he seemed like a genuinely good person, aside from his incredulous skills in football. im lucky i got the opportunity to meet him.

when i got to the table i shook everyone's hand. i was really trying to keep it cool as i shook Ronaldo's hand, but my inner fan girl was screaming.

just as i was waving my goodbyes to everyone at the table i turned around to leave, but i had bumped into somebody.

our bodies collided and i stumbled back a few steps.

"ah shit i'm so sorry," a male voice spoke, "you okay?" he grabbed my by my waist, helping me keep my balance after the clash.

the man's voice stroked not only my hearing, but every single one of my senses. his voice conveyed authority, but at the same time it was comforting. his voice has a slight rasp to it, which i found quite attractive.

i rubbed my eyes, attempting to regain full conscious. "nah you're fine," i spoke, "no worries." with one glance at the familiar boy, my eyes lit up and my stomach turned. from the moment our eyes met, time stood still. it was like nothing else in the room mattered. it felt like love at first sight, except this wasn't "first sight." i had seen this boy somewhere before.

and i almost instantly realized who it was.

"joão?" i spoke so softly that you could barely hear me over the background noise of the people in the resturaunt murmuring.

"kiara," he said beaming and running one hand through his hair. he took one step closer to me, his eyes exploring every curve and crook of my body.

i had no idea this was possible but he looked even better than he did in the pictures. he was around 6'0 and he had the fluffiest brown hair. he had a defined jawline and the perfect tint of cherry in his lips. his eyes were so captivating, like they held so many souls behind them. the the depth behind his eyes, to the gentle expression of his voice had me blushing like no other. in this moment, i wanted to embrace him in a hug— but i knew i couldn't do that. my brother was watching. so i had to act like this was my first time ever interacting with him.

i gestured over to my brother, implying that we should probably just shake hands. joão understandingly nodded and shook my hand.

except, he held on my hand for a little too long. we locked eyes for what felt like forever, as our hands were intertwined.

in this moment, i had to wonder if he saw the same thing. because when i looked at joão, i saw fireworks. i saw my soulmate. i'm not sure if that meant romantically, or platonically.

but when i looked into joão's eyes, i saw something i wanted to keep for myself forever. something i never wanted to let go of— or let out of my grasp.

i swallowed hard and let go of his grip on my hand. he smirked at me one last time and went to go greet the others at the table, almost like nothing had just happened.

i turned around to look at the table, stunned. i gathered myself together and gave one final wave to everyone. "bye guys," i said, "i'll catch up with you all later!"

"see ya kiara!" cameron said from the end of the table. joão gave me one last final look as i walked away. even as i was walking away, i could still feel his eyes glued to me. considering how many times we locked eyes, i had his gaze memorized. it was quite literally unforgettable.

while the boys were out, i decided to go to my hotel room and take a shower. as i waiting on the elevator, i realized joão had never texted me since i gave him my number.

the elevator knelled, signaling that i was at my desired floor. i exited the elevator, shutting my phone off along with a sigh.

i pressed the keycard against the fab, unlocking the hotel room door. my bag was lying on my bed. my parents obviously took my bag and put it in here, since they have an extra key. i flipped the light switch, illuminating the room. i threw my phone on the bed and got undressed.

i stepped into the shower and turned the lever, making the water significantly warmer. i shut my eyes closed as the scorching water prickled onto my neck, trailing down to my back. steam filled the room, due to the boiling water emitting from the shower head.

as i stood there, deep into my thoughts, all i could think about was his look. or, his gaze. the moment replayed in my head about one million times. i'm not really sure why this boy who i barely knew had such an effect on me.

but most of all, i wondered if i had the same effect on him.
