~August 13 1956, Obon festival day one.~

'—The lanterns are supposed to guide them home. —a brunette teen said, looking at her younger brother. A ginger who lost the sparkle in his eyes some months ago because of that blue haired boy who killed himself. Akito just remained silent, feeling how his eyes were watering. —Maybe Toya will... —she was interrupted by her brother's aching words. —'

'—Don't talk about Toya. —the ginger finally talked, with a voice tone full with anger and pain. —he's dead, Ena. He won't come back, and if he did, I wouldn't be able to see him, so what's the point of it? —'

Homosexuality wasn't well seen back in those years, people could be killed and tortured for it. In Toya's case, he came from an important family, and they couldn't exactly tolerate his relationship with Akito. All the insults led him to the river, where he finally killed himself, making Akito's smile disappear forever. Akito remembered Toya's last card, word by word, specially that part...

'Why do I want to love? Why do I want to be loved? I used to think that every second of my miserable life, but then I met you, and I understood who's the person I always wanted to love. I love you Shinomone-San, I always will.
Gomenne.
-Aoyagi Toya.'

That card changed his life forever. He wouldn't be able to love ever again, he didn't wanted to love someone else.

The lanterns illuminated a large path, families were reunited again, waiting for their loved ones to return home during the festival. It wasn't a melancholic celebration, it was joyful and people really enjoyed it, it was a nice way to remember the people who left this world. But Akito couldn't enjoy it, Toya shouldn't be dead in first place, just the thought of being there because of him was horrible and broke his heart into a million pieces. People were already heading to the graves and altars, so Ena offered her hand to Akito so he could get up.

'We were supposed to be together forever. It was just you and me against the world.' The younger thought, making his way to Toya's grave.

[ —Come on Akito! We're almost there! —Toya said joyfully. —
—Chill Toya... it's not like if I'm going to die tomorrow... —Akito said annoyed, but smiling at Toya's cuteness at the same time. They walked for a couple of minutes, Toya dragging Akito. He wasn't even paying attention anymore until the other stoped walking. —why did you stopped? —he said. He looked up, and his eyes were just amazed of the view. It was beautiful, a huge tree by the river, the only thing they could hear was the water running, a very peaceful place. —wow... this is beautiful... —

—Told you! —Toya said as he sat down under the tree. —I come here a lot. —Akito sat down by his side and stayed silent. Some birds started to sing, at the sun began to fall. The ginger stared at Toya's eyes, and without even thinking it twice, he kissed him. Toya's eyes widened, their foreheads touched and a smile was drawn on his lips. —You know Akito? Tsukasa-Kun has always told me you love me, but I really wanted to hear those words coming from you.
