Accepting Death

Chapter 2

     Mavis awakens to Yasmin spamming her phone with what seems like a million messages and calls. Irritated, Mavis replies, "What??? What's so important you have to message me at 2 AM?" She sits up and rubs her sleepy eyes as she waits for a reply. She's not replying... might as well stay up since I'm already awake. Seeing Yasmin typing on her phone, she glances at it. "I just wanted to ask if you've made up your mind about the party," Yasmin asked. The thought of Yasmin wanting to go so badly confused Mavis. "You know I don't like crowds," she said. I know she said it would be beneficial for me but I don't feel like attending. It's too much work. Yasmin leaves Mavis to read, possibly to let her think about it again. She is confident Mavis will end up joining her if she can convince her well enough. As she pondered whether or not to carry out this crazy plan, Mavis sighed. She shut off her phone and collapsed on the bed. Unmotivated to move, she dozes off to sleep.

     As soon as Mavis wakes up the next morning, she starts getting ready for school. She heads to the kitchen to grab a quick snack before picking up Yasmin. It seems that Yasmin is already waiting outside Mavis's house. She looks tired and cranky, as always. The two girls run off to school before they're counted as tardy. This is going to be a long day, they both thought.

     At the end of the day, Yasmin and Mavis met outside of school. They gossip about the drama they've heard in different classes. "I think I'll go to the party with you but we have to get drunk. No matter what" Mavis admits. Yasmin smiles and hugs Mavis tightly. "Yes, let's do it! The party is in about a week. Hopefully, that'll be enough time to prepare." Mavis is shaken by the fact that she agreed to attend.

     By the time they're done gossiping they are already at home. Mavis notices that nobody is home. She rushes upstairs and grabs her speaker to play Mitski loudly while she cleans up. Mitski tends to be one of her favorite comforts and is her main source of motivation.
