My lazy manner almost took myself from waking up from my nap. If it wasn't for a honk of a car that I'd heard I shouldn't have woken up. I tossed my pillow on the floor and glanced at my digital clock. It read a quarter past five. I sighed in relief. But where did that honk come from? Oh probably it was the car that Ricky called for delivery.
I jumped out of bed and fled downstairs and into the living room. In a distance, Ricky called me from the front door with a guy holding a manila envelope that was wearing a polo uniform that had a print on the upper left chest that read 'Subaru'. Just then I realized I had to sign it to assure the claim.
The guy greeted me with a 'good day' when I approached them and instructed me where to sign and I followed instructions carefully and handed him the white paper after signing it. He then handed me the duplicate keys and mouthed thank you as well as I did.
"Subaru Outback." I glanced at Ricky who was smiling at me. The feelings of having a new car was like a déjà vu to me. It was the same feeling I had a year and a half ago. I mean this wasn't much of a big deal but I just felt...I don't know.
Cooper was out for a practice and Macy was in her room probably chatting with her friends through Skype or taking a nap. Either ways, I have no one to hang out with in this moment so after checking out the car that was already down from the tow truck, I went to my room and called dad and informed him that the car was delivered ten minutes ago.
"That's good." Through the other end of the line, I heard him clear his throat. "At least you can travel on your own there." I'd much prefer travelling with someone actually although I have already bought a street map earlier.
"Yah. Thanks dad." I muttered in a low voice but audible enough to be heard through the phone. It's already less than an hour before we head to the party so I guessed Macy was already up fixing herself. There was also a slam on the door outside that I guessed it was the door across my room which was Cooper's so maybe he's already arrived from their quick practice.
"Sure thing, sweety. God I missed you already." He replied with a sigh. For sure he was at the hospital or at his office trying to figure out how to repuzzle his bone structure or whatever I was just babbling.
Chuckles escaped from my mouth. "Dad I've been away for barely three days and you miss me already?"
"Of course. I'm gonna miss you every single day." Suddenly I realized I missed him so much too. This phone call is the one I am not used to. I mean I got used when I make a phone call with dad, mom would always talk on the phone her voice in a distance. Or dad would always say something with regards to mom and now... he isn't. There was depression in his voice that he tends to cover and hide with his tone. But knowing David, he's a terrible secret keeper. When he feels sad, he makes himself busy as often as he could. He has this selective memory. He blocks out unpleasant memories by making himself busy. Which at most times, work.
"I miss you too, dad." I replied keeping myself composed. I felt my cheeks go cold and when I raised my free hand to touch it, it was already wet with tears. I tried to swallow my sobs but when I knew it coming, I had to bid my goodbye already. "Dad, there's this party of Cooper's bandmates and we have to go in a while—"
