It's late afternoon. The surfers are pushing out on their last surf for the day. The seagulls are avidly searching for any stray food lying on the beach.
Grace feels a tap on her lower back. She turns around breaking into a smile of familiarity. "Heath what a surprise".
His lime green eyes glowing in the warmth of the sun. Grace wraps her arms around him.
"we got back early"
"How was the trip"
"Not bad. Just the usual summer holiday buzz you know."
Grace picks up her towel from the hot sand and grabs his arm.
"Let's go grab a bite to eat?"
"I would love that we have so much to catchup on"
"We really do"
They walk up to the headland. The grass a fresh green and a white fence that looks down into the waves a hue of blue and aqua transforming into a foam of white like a bath bomb exploding in a bubble bath.
They talk for a while then when they get to the cafe on the Main Street Heath suddenly jolts.
"Have you seen Caroline."
Grace's face turns a pale white like she's going to be sick.
"I haven't seen her in a few days."
Heath scratches the curtains of his dirty blonde hair. Surely she's just held up at work he thought. She is always busy.
"Oh I'm sure she's just at work"
He has no idea.Then it hits him. The way Grace is looking at him. Something is wrong.
"Oh shit"
"Yep. "
They give each-other that look that only good friends know. That look where they speak to each-other with their eyes.
"And I don't know what to do. She hasn't texted me since five nights ago when she told me she was gonna meet me after work and then she got into a fight with her dad and that she was.."
"She was what?"
"That she was pregnant"
Heath froze. He couldn't believe what he just heard.
"Her dad would kill her. A pastors kid pregnant. That doesn't go down well"
"But you can't tell anyone I said this. Or should we"
It was starting to get dark now. The lights of the towns restaurants, houses and some Christmas lights on their exteriors
"Omg what if.. what if it's him who took her. Let's report to the police right now. We need to tell them it will help their case"
"Officer ...I think we have a suspect"
