"Chaewon, we can work this out- ow! Stop throwing things at me!"

"You have officially lost your mind," Chaewon picked up another pillow and launched it at Hyeju's head. "You want me to be your fake girlfriend and lie to your entire family-"

"It would only be for a couple days!"

"You are unbelievable,"

"Come on, Chae, think about it. You were already planning on spending Christmas alone since you're not going back home. You'll get to meet all my family, which is gonna be super embarrassing for me and I know you love when embarrassing things happen to me-"

Chaewon sighed. "Valid point,"

"You'll get to have nice food on Christmas, you won't be stuck in this disgusting city so you'll get to have fun in the snow-" Chaewon's eyes lit up. "More time with me, your bestest friend in the whole world-"

"Maybe I'll make Jungeun my new best friend,"

Hyeju crinkled her nose.

"Was that all?"

"No! I'll pay for your flight, and I'll literally do anything you ask, all vacation long," Hyeju clasped her hands together. "Please please please please-"

"Well," Chaewon flipped her hair. "That's what you'd get in a relationship with me anyway,"

Hyeju didn't retort because she wanted to stay on Chaewon's good side.

"Come on, I promise you'll have fun at least some of the time. I already told my sister, and I don't think I can handle the disappointment if I let her down again,"

Chaewon stared at her for a moment, her gaze intense yet unreadable. She chewed her lip, as if mulling it over in her head, and then sighed.

"You better get me an amazing fucking gift, girlfriend,"

"You know I will," Hyeju agreed. "So you'll do it?"

Chaewon opened and closed her mouth. "I guess," She said quietly.

"YES. Thank you so much Wonnie. I promise it'll be perfect,"

The longer Hyeju drove the more she realized just how crazy her plan was.

The plane flight out of NYC to Michigan had been hectic, and Hyeju had no doubt Chaewon was planning to make this harder for her at every turn. She'd brought two big suitcases whereas Hyeju usually only packed a carry on. "This is why you're single!" Chaewon had exclaimed. "No skincare and the same three t-shirts,"

She had then insisted Hyeju use at least some of her suitcase space, so Hyeju brought five t-shirts instead of three. And moisturizer, after all of Chaewon's passive aggressive comments. They stood side by side as they packed and Hyeju actually started to feel good about this. Confident even. Fool proof plan.

Hyeju had been forced to roll the - pastel pink and glittery - suitcases through the entire NYC airport, which was deeply embarrassing but just another thing she was willing to do for Chaewon. Chaewon had booked herself a first class flight while Hyeju sat just behind her in coach. But every time Hyeju thought about complaining to her, she got a little thank you, fake girlfriend :) that made her insides melt a little. Not in a weird way though.

They were in the Michigan airport and Hyeju had just checked them into the rental car service when Chaewon brought it up.

"So what exactly are we going to tell your family?"
