ELAIN ABERNATHY
PRESENT:* ˚ ✦
Elain scanned the room busy with people as she tried to find her friend. Her champagne colored silk mini dress fit her body perfectly and her dark hair cascaded down her back.
Rika was running late, which was making Elain anxious. The party currently being hosted was too important to the Crist's for her to be late. Mr. and Mrs. Crist had been riding her back ever since Rika decided she wanted to leave for Meridian City.
'Shit, god damn it.' Elain thought as she saw Mrs. Crist made her way towards her. She looked beautiful as always, which made Elain even more nervous. Elain forced a smile onto her face as she neared closer to her. "It's great to see you, Mrs. Crist." She said politely. Elain had known Mrs. Crist her entire life. She had been friends with her mom, leading to her being practically a second mom to Elain.
"Elain dear, lovely to see you." Mrs. Crist said with a smile on her face, but she could tell something was off. The older woman stopped in front of Elain, looking at her in astonishment. "You look absolutely amazing, It's a shame you're beauty will be wasted on soccer instead of modeling." She said disappointingly and Elain forced herself to not drop her smile. Here we go again. "If you ever change your mind and decide to do modeling, call me and I will get you in the best agency possible."
Mrs. Crist had always wanted her to do modeling. She constantly pestered her about it, saying things like 'you were born to be on the front of a magazine', 'just imagine what you would be able to experience', and 'you're missing out on an opportunity here'.
The same old thing over and over. It wasn't like Elain didn't appreciate it, she did, she just wasn't used to parental figures being interested in her life.
Elain's parents weren't what you called...parents. They were lawyers who were constantly traveling, never present in her life to put it plainly. Something else was always more important than being home. Countless competitions, birthdays, ceremonies, Christmas's, and holidays were spent without them.
'It doesn't matter', Elain reminded herself, 'the past is the past.'
Elain continued to force herself to smile. "I appreciate the offer but I think I'll stick to soccer, see how it goes. It's not everyday you get accepted into the Nation Women's Soccer League." Elain let out a light chuckle and Mrs. Crist's smile dropped slightly at her words before quickly masking it.
Unexpectedly, arms wrapped around Elain's waist and she was pulled against someone's hard body. She looked over to see Max grinning at her. A smile found it's way onto her face and she titled her chin upwards to kiss him. It was a short kiss, due to Mrs. Crist's presence, but it was still sweet.
