If Hallo had jumped, she would've been disappointed in herself. She'd been in the mythical world too long to get scared at said beings appearing out the blue. Luckily for her, it wasn't a angry god or titan.
"Zoe." She greeted back, keeping her eyes on the sky. "Was that you?"
She chuckled. From the corner of Hallo's eye, she caught her staring as well. Her night-sky hair was chopped uneven as if she had done it herself but it took nothing away from her natural beauty. Her golden skin, mysterious eyes and toned body made her perfect in Hallo's eyes. But she was still short for her age, something Hallo always found herself focusing on.
Seeing Zoe always made her feel weird to begin with. Their history was solely centered around one boy but lucky for her Zoe never wanted him back. Though it retrospect, it didn't seem like Jake was anyone's to hold.
"Don't know why you don't forget about him." She answered instead, still frowning. "You're better... Aeolus is better without him."
"Says the one rebuilding his very gang." Hallo replied nonchalantly. She saw Zoe stiffen ever so slightly.
She'd gotten close to the godling in the last few months. She had to once she realized Jake was gone.
Yes, Jake Thales had once more disappeared from the face of the Earth. The boy who somehow managed to transcend from being a godling to a demigod and finally a god.
After the Chambers and their battle against Eros (long story), the two of them had spent a few months as a sort of couple. Only Jake had remained focused on his newfound power, disappearing for days at a time. Eventually those days blended into a full month before Hallo became desperate.
She had sought out the host of the goddess Nyx and found her rebuilding the once notorious gang led by Jake. Hallo had found it secretly hilarious that Zoe showed disdain to Jake and yet was rebuilding what was essentially his legacy, something he was secretly too ashamed to do himself.
"The Remnants aren't just a criminal gang. They're a safe haven. A home." Zoe explained slowly as if fond memories were coming into view. "Where godlings, descendants and demigods alike protect each other from monsters and gods. Didn't matter what pantheon or story brought you there, you were a Remnant through and through."
Hallo was always wistful when she heard Zoe speaking so fondly of the gang. By the time Hallo met Jake the gang had been decimated, it's protection racket and alleged prostitution rings gone. It's mythical building sitting on the river in shambles.
"A home you found through him." Hallo teased which got a sigh out of Zoe but she knew Hallo was right. "Are you gonna resurrect the onlyfans side of the gang?"
"Well technically speaking that side was never gone. Siya and Aeela have been keeping it going around South Africa. It's only gau-" She paused as if she realized exactly what she was explaining. "But no. My focus is the mythical side. Aeela and the rest can keep that."
The name sounded familiar to Hallo but she left it. She wasn't particularly interested in that beyond teasing Zoe.
"Calm for months... Can only mean one thing." Zoe continued in broken sentences, her eyes fixed on the slowly darkening clouds. "Officially, Olympus is shut down."
Hallo's body tensed. Olympus, the pantheon of the Greek gods, closed? She wondered what the mountain top looked like. If it resembled anything like the various movies and series that showed it.
"That's fine by me. Means keeping Zeus and the rest of them in one place hopefully, right?" Hallo frowned as Zoe's chuckled sourly.
In the time that Jake had been gone, Zoe had pieced together what Hallo couldn't. She knew now that Zeus had killed Jake's parents and, in turn, the battle of Aeolus was sort of revenge. Revenge was a light way of putting it as half the Olympians had been killed.
Zoe thought Jake was off to finish the job. He had become significantly more powerful than he was in the Battle of Aeolus and didn't see any other answer. But Hallo knew and eventually convinced Zoe too. Jake's disappearance was linked to Ouranos. The sky god wanted a piece of him in the Chambers and, for a while, Jake went without his eye because of it.
"Unofficially, talk is Zeus is training Jake day and night. The other gods and pantheons think something big is about to happen. A sort of closing of a circle." Zoe spat out. She seemed angry at the thought that the gods were still actively messing with Jake. "Only thing is, the remaining Olympians don't exactly like it. They still blame Zeus for this entire Thales debacle so they might just revolt. But one thing is for certain, he's up there."
