the fox woke up to the familiar alarm blaring. she turned to see that it was still a ways away before morning, and she wondered what could be the matter at such an ungodly hour. the distinct 'octonauts to the hq!' rang through her ears as she readied herself for a long day.

sprinting to the main quarters, she made it in time for role call, with a certain kwazii voicing everyone's complaints. ignoring his lack of cooperation, captain barnacles laid out the manner at hand: trooper and murray had lost a pair of their buddies and the pack was terribly worried for their missing friends. hoping she would not get chosen for the mission, aubrie kept quiet, also due to the early awakening.

"kwazii, you'll take gup-b towards the trench and search any caves & crevices nearby. peso will ride with me in gup-a and the vegimals will look around the octopod for our lost friends. lets get to it!"

with a sigh of relief, the fox trudged her way through to her room and onto the bed. since it was only a couple of missing creatures, she was sure it wouldn't take long. shutting her eyes, she fell back into a much needed rest.

waking up much sooner than she would have liked, the sound of panic coerced the snowy fox into a grumpy morning. apparently, the rest of the group had been housed in the launch pad to be fed, too worried to search for their own food; eels do not bode well accompanied by nervousness and the constant banging was too loud for anyone but a hibernating bear to be asleep.

making her way to the kitchen, she found a couple kelp cakes that were yet to be eaten. with no intent to upset the other octonauts, she willed away her cranky attitude and found herself in the research lab. eyeing a very focused otter, she peeked at what seemed to be a book on eels.

"any clue where they could be? it's been a good while and even i'm starting to fear."

"jumping jellyfish!"

eliciting a reaction, shellington had jumped rather harshly, the book falling out his hands. aubrie tittered at the fact and retrieved the fallen book. as she flipped the book from cover to the pages, she read through the information on the given paper.

"sorry, didn't mean to scare you; but hey, take a look at this."

recovering from the initial embarrassment, the otter scanned over the said pages, coming to a realization.

"fascinating! i never thought that eels would be ones to migrate but i guess not! it is mating season, after all; that must be where our friends are off to."

shellington faced the fox with a bright look in his eye, visibly delighted at the newfound discovery.

"let's go inform the others! fascinating. .. you learn something new every day."

the scottish boy began frantically searching for his octo-tablet, unsure of where it was misplaced. aubrie cleared her throat in an attempt to get his attention, a failed attempt at that.

"shellington."

"yes, what is it?" he replied, his back still faced towards her.

"shellington." she said in a more stern voice.

the otter faced her curiously, finding the arctic fox to be holding the item he was looking for. embarrassment washed over him once again, a pink tint prominent over his features.

"ah! ehm, thank you. i'm sorry i wasn't, uhm," he scratched the back of his neck, "more keen. thank you, again."

aubrie gave the poor boy a reassuring smile and handed him the tablet. he quickly swiped through to the radio station and propped it up to where both octonauts were in frame.

"captain! with a little bit of research, me & aubrie may have a clue to where our fellow fish have gone! during this time, some moray eels may migrate to their place of birth, to reproduce some of their own. i think tory may had gone to her birthplace to lay her eggs."

"that may be the reason for such a disappearance; now, to find which way she's gone.."

the radio had cut and the otter was glowing with pride. aubrie smiled endearingly at the boy who was so proud to be of use.

"so, we have an idea where our missing eel is, but i wonder if our grouper friend is with her as well"

"maybe she had wanted a friend to accompany her. i know that i wouldn't like to travel alone, so she might have taken a buddy with her."

"that would make sense. i hope they find them quickly, these eels might collapse from their worry; it's not healthy for them to be enclosed for such a long time, too."

"i'm sure they'll be found soon; the captain is good at what he does and he's got kwazii zooming by on gup-b"

"that's relieving," the fox muttered.

she sat down at a desk, cracking open and taking a sip of a water bottle. as the drink soothed her parched throat, aubrie was reminded of how early in the morning it still was. the others had been awake far longer than she had.

"have you eaten?"

shellington turned to her, a puzzled look on his face.

"have you eaten?" she repeated.

"well- no? why do you ask?"

"well it's early and you've been awake for a good while; there's either a storm brewing in that stomach of yours or a big, empty hole," she pointed at his midsection.

"well, now that you mention it, i guess i am a little hungry," he replied shyly.

the girl hopped out of her seat and strode to the door, "alright, then i'll fetch ya something. fish biscuits sound good? or would you rather kelp cakes?"

"in all honesty, i think i've had enough fish biscuits to last me a lifetime. if you could fetch me some kelp cakes that would be great, thanks."

she walked happily towards the kitchen, a sudden wave of sleepiness emitting over her person, or fox, rather. she returned with a plate of cakes, placing them at the hands of the otter.

"i'm not sure what's come over me, but i think i'm going to continue my so desired sleep now. if you need me, just knock on my door and i'll be up in a jiffy. if i get woken up by that alarm once again i think i'm going to throw a tantrum."

aubrie waved a furry hand at the otter as she slumped towards the door. she heard a chuckle as she slowly made her way out the room.

"don't worry, i won't wake ya. don't blame me if the alarm does, though. sweet dreams, aubrie."
