7: 24 A.M."Have a good day at school, Pooh." Malayah kissed Lani's cheek as she leaned over to the driver's side of the car. "I love you."
Malayah dropped Lani off because she had to get to school early and each morning because she was a fourth grade student.
"I love you too, momma. Have a good day." After grabbing her bag and draping it over her shoulder, Lani exited the vehicle's passenger side, making careful to close the door behind her.
Due to the fact that Lani's Winter Break was approaching closer, this would be her last day of the week.
"Morning, Kaylani. Since today is the last day, let's attempt to make this a good day." One of Lani's fourth-graders could be seen.
Before continuing to travel down the hall where breakfast was being served, Lani gave her a gentle nod.
"Make sure y'all grab a fruit!" While Lani collected her apple juice and walked on, she could hear the lunch ladies fussing at the kids.
After getting closer to the lunch ladies, Lani grabbed a tray and looked at the fruits, but she didn't see anything she actually enjoyed.
Before stepping away and heading to the keypad to enter her lunch number, she scrunched her face up.
"You didn't hear her say grab a fruit?" Lani was questioned by the older, grumpy black woman who was seated in the chair.
Because even her own mother wouldn't talk to her that way, Lani's brows wrinkled.
"That fruit sit out here everyday, I don't want that old fruit." Lani responded to her.
"Okay, well you have to get a fruit. It's policy for us." The lunch lady commented as students began to form a line around the hold up.
"No, I'm not even eating it. Why do I have to get something I don't want?" Lani enquired.
The woman gave a huff before becoming irate at Lani.
"Either grab a fruit or leave the breakfast." She told Lani.
"Okay, girl. The old pancakes y'all serve every-single-day." Lani scrunched her face up and dropped her tray down onto the tabletop. "Getting mad for a fruit not being on my plate for no reason, stupid ho."
