Dead city: survival instinct

Chapter/issue 1: The dead rises

It cuts to mason driving down the road low on gas he gets out of the car searching for gas as he's looking he notices feet across from him on the other side of a vehicle as he goes mason: little girl I'm a policeman little girl you don't have to be afraid. As she turns around she's already zombified as the little girl starts walking and running at him he takes out his gun and shoots her in the head as he looks in despair we cut to 5 months earlier  March 30th 2014 Mason Briggs in the police car with his partner Matthew Bennett  having a conversation about life paying bills
Mason: what's the difference between men and women?
Matthew: that a joke?
Mason: no I'm serious.
Matthew: never met a woman who knew how to turn off a light born thinking the switch only goes one way on, they're struck blind the second they leave a room I mean every women I ever let have a key I swear to god it's like I come home, house all lit up and my job,you see apparently because my chromosomes happen to be different is I've then gotta walk through that house, turn off every single light this chick left on.
Mason: is that right?
Matthew: yeah baby, mmm oh reverend Matt is preaching to you now boy, then the same chick mind you she'll bitch about global warming you see this is when reverend Matt wants to quote from the guy gospel and say, darling maybe you or every other pair of boobs on this planet just figure out the light switch,you see goes both ways,maybe we wouldn't have so much global warming.
Mason: you say that?
Matthew: yeah,well a polite version still man that earns me this look of loathing you would not believe and that's when the exorcise voice pops out, you sound just like my damn father! Always telling about the power bill telling me to turn off the damn lights.
Mason: and what do you say to that ?
Matthew: I know what I want to say I want to say bitch you mean to tell me you've been hearing this your entire life and you are still too damn stupid to learn how to turn off a switch? As they both laugh
Matthew: you know I don't actually say that though. Mason: that would be bad.
Matthew: yep yep I go with the polite version there too.
Mason: very wise.
Matthew: yes sir, so how's it with Laura man?
Mason: she's good she's good at turning off lights really good I'm the one who sometimes forgets.
Matthew: not what I meant.
Mason: we didn't have a great night.
Matthew: hey look man I may have failed to amuse with my sermon but I did try the least you can do is speak.
Mason: that's what she always says speak. Speak you think I was the most closed mouth son of bitch ever to hear her tell it.
Matthew: do you express your thoughts do you share your feelings that kind of stuff ?
Mason: the thing is lately, whenever I try, everything I say makes her impatient, like she didn't want to hear it after all it's like she's pissed at me all the time and I don't know why.
Matthew: look man that's just shit couples go through yeah, it's a phase.
Mason: the last thing she said this morning, sometimes I wonder if you even care about us at all she said that in front of our kids imagine going to school with that in your head the difference between men and women I would never say something that cruel to her especially not in front of Jonathan.
explaining life situations and everything. Until they get a call on the radio about a massive shootout and reports of cannibalism eating people alive they rush to the hospital location where it's going down and mason's other buddy shows up Shawn maxwell been friends with him since 3rd grade the people that are the cannibals they were already dead the whole police force were trying to defend they're post but they just kept coming and coming and coming until finally one gets shot in the head they all go for the head and mason says "what the fuck." So evacuation points are all out in the city the military show up and mason shows up back at the house to get his wife Laura and his two boys Caleb and Jon neighbors and everybody were crowded in the house until the dead ones came outta the woods and started eating people Matthew took mason's family to one of the evac stations masons says "go on I'll catch up him and Shawn go see with the military about what the hell is going on lieutenant Johnson says "an outbreak happened a virus came from Paris the French were the last ones to figure out that a virus hit the streets New Orleans is the last city standing you need to get there now." Helicopters show up and drag mason onto one but Shawn tries to fight but knock him out and fly off and Shawn tries to see where they go but he lost it so he drives to the evacuation point where Matt and Laura and Caleb and Jon are on the highway he informs them with what is going on Laura is shocked and scared little Jon is sad and crying and doesn't know what to do a lot of people show up a group of people Harold and his wife josette and Richard his ex wife Mary and his two children William and Chloe and a kid named Jason rolling along and other survivors a doctor/nurse Stacey coope and two other officers Chris Augustine and jake Copeland chris says " go to evac station 17" on the outskirts of Virginia but Harold and his group already went there the place was on fire and full of dead ones Chris with a shocked look on his face he goes "what ?that can't be possible it was heavily guarded Harold goes "sorry son we just came from there it was full of those things". We were hoping to come here to at least get answers or something" Shawn and Laura goes off the highway onto a steep hill to see what everyone is looking at in panic government vehicles and jets dropping bombs into the streets as buildings crumble Laura looks at Shawn with a shocked expression and sadness in her eyes and looks to him for comfort. They all leave and are escorted to a refugee camp in the mountains where they are safe for now.
