Nevermore Academy - New England
"Welcome! And welcome back, to most of you," Principal Weems' voice echoed across the Quad.
All the students were congregated in the centre of the pentagon-shaped area, Y/N still doesn't understand why it's called a Quad if it has 5 corners. Teachers were standing tall along the perimeter, as if guarding the exits, preventing any student from escaping. Y/N was hidden amongst the student body, listening to his new parental figure give her opening speech.
"May we begin by conjuring up an applause for our warm and welcoming staff," Weems continued as the sound of clapping hands and howling followed. Y/N looked around at all the dull faces of all the teachers, all except one, Marilyn Thornhill, who was clapping louder than all the students combined. She was the resident botanist at Nevermore, Y/N didn't have a good first meeting with her since he found her to be overly nice. Weird but true as her personality seemed overly forced.
"I am so grateful to see all of your faces today, new and old. Now, we all have hard work ahead, with new challenges and puzzles to wrap our brains around. I wish you all well on your journey this year, we will all be here to support you! And an extra special good luck for Mr Y/N L/N!"
All heads turned towards the boy. Y/N couldn't hide his face faster.
"Who will be joining us for the foreseeable future, say 'Hello' Y/N!"
It felt as if everyone else in the crowd had just become two feet shorter. Y/N awkwardly smiled and waved his hand before lowering it and glaring at the principal.
"Now," Weems spoke up again after an agonisingly long pause. "Ms Thornhill and Mr Vlad will come around with envelopes containing your name and one other student's. These will be your roommates for the remainder of the year. Any complaints come through your Housemaster."
Coach Vlad, the teacher who had been sparring with Y/N recently in fencing and boxing came up to the boy and handed him a small letter. He hurriedly opened it to see the name:
Ajax Petropolus
Yeah, he had no idea who that was. Sounds like a spell.
"I guess you're my roomie," a quiet voice called out behind Y/N. He turned around to be met with a boy wearing a beanie and the traditional blue and black Nevermore uniform, with a hoodie hidden underneath the blazer. "I'm Ajax."
The new guy stuck his hand out and seemed to give a sigh of relief when Y/N did the same.
"Y/N," he said, shaking Ajax's hand. "You probably know that though..."
"Hey, Ajax!" A girl with blonde hair, blue and pink highlights and a sunny attitude skipped up to the pair. "I didn't get a card."
"Lucky," Ajax groaned and then caught himself. "No offence... I'm just not a people person." He finished quickly.
"None taken," Y/N responded, turning his attention to the new arrival. "Although I feel like you are."
"Only the most people person you'll find in Nevermore," she excitedly announced, bouncing up and down slightly. "My name's Enid, Enid Sinclair. A pleasure to meet you."
"Y/N L/N, nice to meet you too."
"So what are you?" Enid asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Like, I'm a werewolf... in training, and Ajax is a gorgon."
