“Come on, Jasmine! Lets go go go!” Roxy said, bouncing impatiently.
“Alright hold on, I'm nearly done.” I replied, still putting the finishing touches to my make-up.
“I should hope you are, You've been doing your make-up for the best part of an hour.” She said as she continued to bounce. I finished my mascara and slipped on my six-inch heels. I wore a reasonably low-cut purple top with a black skirt that reached halfway down my thighs. My heels matched my top. I accessorised with a black sparkly clutch bag, engagement ring and white gold locket my fiancée bought me for my birthday.
“We're going to get stuck in the queue!” Emma complained, smoothing out her blue dress. Her dress reached the same place my skirt did. Shuqi stayed quiet but I could tell she was silently willing me to hurry up. Her black dress sparkled in the light projected by my lamp. Her sleeves reached her elbows and glittered just like the little crystals on her bracelet. All us girls had our tops or dresses quite low-cut. After all, it was my hen night.
“Okay, I'm grabbing the loot a minute. I doubt you'll even be ready when I'm back.” Roxy said. She went over to her bedroom, where she was gone for about three minutes.
“What's the loot?” I asked Shuqi and Emma.
“Don't you worry about that. Hurry up!” Emma said, smiling through her impatience. Roxy got back into the room and said “Car's here.” She swung her bag over her shoulder and shooed us out of the door.
As we got out the door I saw the car, a grey modern mini. The driver got out and opened the door for Emma, Shuqi and I. Roxy got in the passenger seat.
“Okay, girls. Here you go.” She opened her bag and passed us back a load of bunny ears and fluffy tails. Along with an L plate for me. I smiled as I put them on. Everyone put theirs on, except Emma. “Oh come on, Emma. It's Jasmine's hen night. You have to.” Roxy said.
"No I don't.” Emma said.
“Yeah you dang well do, Emma.” I told her.
“If you say so.” She said before she did as she was told.
“Oh, one more thing.” Roxy said. She opened the dashboard of the mini, which turned out to be a mini-fridge! She got out a bottle of champagne and four flutes. “I had to uncork it earlier so we didn't cause any accidents.” she said, a guilty smile played on her lips as she pulled the cork out. She filled the flutes one by one, careful not to spill any of it. The first flute was handed to me.
Once everyone had a flute of champagne Roxy said a toast. “First, to our friend Jasmine who has found, as Shakespeare would say, happy nights to happy days. Secondly, to the happy couple!” The girls echoed the last bit and we drank on the way to the club.
The club was a large, one storey building. Painted white and quite a boring square shape. The neon green sign read “The Ditch”. I wondered why. The mini stopped outside the door and we got out. Roxy thanked the driver and then went over to talk to the bouncer. I don't know what she said but she got us straight in. We didn't even get asked for ID! The bouncer Roxy spoke to just stamped our hands and let us in. The whole queue groaned when they saw. But I didn't really care.
The reason the club we were at was called “The Ditch” was because when you got in the door and through the little corridor the floor suddenly dropped about five inches! So we had to hold onto the railing just so we could get onto the main floor in our heels! Good times by Roll Deep was being spun on the decks by a quite buff DJ with dark skin. The kind of skin that in school we would have called “blik” . We went over to the bar and were served by a hot white guy with a dark brown flicky fringe, all four of us liked the look of him. We each first ordered a “warm up drink” which normally for us was an alco-pop. So we had a WKD blue. Shuqi found a good table in a decent corner. I noticed Roxy was still wearing her coat. “Oi you! Take your coat off, Miss Emo.” I called into her ear. Roxy looked down self-consciously. Then stood up from her seat and practically peeled off her coat. Her dress was bright pink with white ribbons and bows on the bottom. It was sleeveless and had a skirt with nets underneath, making the skirt stick out. She sat back down and crossed her arms over her belly shyly.
