We stepped off of the stage and I jumped to hug him. Again.
“OhmiGod! What are we going to tell people? When are we going to tell people? WHO DO WE TELL FIRST?!” I asked, getting over-excited.
“Hey, Baby, calm down.” He said, putting his hands on my shoulders and looking into my eyes.
“Sorry..” I said. But all I could think of was what our wedding would be like. Who would be my maid of honour? Who would be Chris' best man? What would my dress be like? Where would we get married?
“Let's host a dinner, we can announce it then.” Chris said, his eyes searching my face for approval. I nod.
“Yes. A family dinner and a dinner with our friends.”
“We could just take the mates out for a drink and say it then.”
I tucked my famous roast chicken into the oven and set the timer before I checked on the vegetables as they steam cooked. Still not done yet. I set the table with the right amount of cutlery, glasses and plates. Chris' parents were on holiday so it was just my family that we were to entertain. I checked the clock. Three hours to go! I looked at the ring and smiled to myself. I couldn't wait for my family to find out, for the whole world to know!
I looked down at myself, wearing fluffy slippers, comfy trousers and one of Chris' t-shirts. But the ring still made me feel like a princess.
“In an hour and a half prince charming will be home and we can prepare together.” I say to the teddy stuck to the fridge.
“He's home early.” A male voice said. I turned and ran to give Chris a hug.
“I swear I don't do that often.” I said, my head on his chest.
“Yeah, okay Babes.” He said, stroking my hair.
I went upstairs and got dressed into a slinky purple dress, knee length with elbow length sleeves. Teamed with a silver chain and matching bracelet. I don't bother with make-up for now, not until I've finished cooking. I kept the slippers on and went back down the stairs. Just in time to get the chicken out of the oven. The smell made my eyes water.
“Babe, put the wine in the ice-box on the table please.” I called out to him.
“Which one?” He called back.
“One of the white ones.”I replied. I could hear as Chris got what was probably the wrong bottle of wine and put it in the ice-box. I checked on the chicken and used a spoon to cover it with the juices before putting it back in for another twenty minutes.
“I'm gonna go and get ready.” He said behind me. He put his hands on my shoulders and kissed the back of my neck.
As he went upstairs I made a start on dessert. Then I make the gravy.
Once Chris and I were ready and the food was cooked I checked all of the details. The glasses were clean, the wine was right and the guests would be arriving soon. We decided to only have close family over but as Chris' family were on holiday it was just my mum, David, my dad, Luke and Selena, his wife.
Our large round table was set with a red tablecloth, silvery coasters and place-mats, a wine-cooler, wine glasses and cutlery. Once all the necessary preparations had been made, I could finally relax. Well, sort of.
At five past six Luke and Selena arrived. Together we went to the garden for drinks, I had mixed Pimms for the first time. As it was summer we could get away with sitting in the garden for a while. Exactly seven minutes later mum and David arrived. They too joined us for Pimms. I began to feel nervous as we waited for my dad to arrive.
