The morning after kissing in the rain. Kenma caught a cold. The tip of his nose freshly stained pink and stuffed heavily. He had called in absence for the next few days. He could not hold a normal conversation without coughing and hacking into his arm.
"How did you get sick?" Kenma's mother took the temperature stick out from his mouth and hands him a bowl of chicken soup, freshly brewed.
"Uhhh.." His mind replayed the scene, the details of everything around them.
"I don't know." His face remained nonchalant but his heart and mind behind that emotionless face, betrayed him. As he tried to speak, anyone could tell that it was a hard time trying to breathe through his mouth and pausing at certain parts of the sentence. And to make things worse he was undeniably congested, making him sound extremely nasal.Kenma checks his phone once his mother left the room and went off to work.
A few new messages.
Why did you skip practice today?
Are you okay?From Kuroo
He couldn't help but smile, Kuroo has always been there for him. He always understood and saw Kenma's reactions, knowing exactly what he meant even if he didn't mention it out loud.
Yes, Kenma knew he was an observant person, but he, himself, certainly was not a people person like Kuroo. Kuroo may be the only person who could read him. Not even Kenma's mother could tell that he wasn't interested in girls. And here he was, infatuated by everything about Kuroo.
I got sick.
He slowly typed.
And with an immediate buzz after a few seconds, Kuroo replied. Earning a hint of happiness on Kenma's face. He couldn't hide his smile yet again.
Are you okay?! I'm coming over after school.
Kenma immediately freaks out. He couldn't possibly have Kuroo see him this way. Voice nasally, face pale, and completely incapable of being attractive right now.
Don't!!!
Kenma sent. No reply.
Knowing Kuroo, Kenma knew that he'd come rushing to his house after school even if Kenma told him not to. He finished his bowl of soup and put the empty bowl aside. He laid down, closed his eyes, and then huffed. Thinking about how bad this could get. If Kuroo sees Kenma in this state, he would completely stop liking him.
And in due time, Kenma peered over his counter and saw that small golden box.
It's from Kuroo.
I wonder what it is.He slowly unwrapped the red ribbon tied around it and pulled the top of the cap off, revealing shiny gold foil.
They were golden chocolate kisses revealed laying on top of white tissue paper, they were arranged in the shape of a flower. And under the cap of the box, handwritten with black ink...
Kiss my two lips!
And right underneath the phrase, were two poorly drawn tulips.
Oh that is so cheesy.
Kenma felt his face heating up even more than his oncoming fever. It was a dumb pun, but he had to admit that it was cute in the most dumbfounded way. He then put it aside and rested in bed, occasionally taking out his PS3 and play that one dragon game with Shouyou on online mode.
He wondered why Hinata could play video games during school. But he decided that it wasn't his problem. He was beating him anyway.
And then he quickly drifted off into taking a long afternoon nap.
