Hey Connor,
I'd just like to say I'm sorry. I know you're probably never going to find this, but I still feel like I should apologize. I did it because it was the only escape. The only permanent one. If I had just forfeited and left it as that, it would still be around, waiting for the next hotheaded idiot to come in and piss it off. I can't have that.So I did the only sure-fire thing that would work. I dragged it down with me. Even without it, I still would have done something like this sooner or later. I just needed a push. I should've told someone about everything, and almost did, but I chickened out before I could.
Speaking of him... if you ever find this, Connor, please...tell Evan he was a good friend. I wish I could have gotten to know him better, but he really helped me. I wish that call wasn't so short. I wish I could tell him this in person, but it's too late now. Or maybe not...
I might be at the pizzeria now. I'm not sure, but I can feel something, like a string, tugging my soul to that place. To Hide-And-Seek. Maybe it would be worth a shot?
-Toby
Connor stared at the note, slightly yellowed and faded. The last part felt disconnected, like Toby had come back to it later and tacked on. Who was 'it', or Evan? And Connor didn't remember a game called 'Hide-And-Seek'. Everything felt wrong. Everything was wrong. He had broken into a school, for Pete's sake! But Connor had come this far. He needed to know what happened to his brother. Desperately. He folded the letter and put in his pocket, walking out of the pool area of the school with new found resolve. The pizzeria had reopened, after all. This shouldn't be much harder than what he already done.
What he was unaware of, however, was a figure watching him leave the building, just as curious as he was.
