Horton plodded off through the trees, humming happily to himself. Mayzie watched him as he left, thinking about the events which had just transpired. Earlier that very morning, she had been down in the dumps, stressing about her egg, and that dreadful kangaroo. But now, as the sun was setting behind the brightly colored trees, she had made a new friend in Horton, and was inspired to be more humble and kind. It's crazy how much can change in just a day, she pondered.
The world seemed brand new. Mayzie gazed upon the horizon, which was a brilliant orange streaked with warm pink clouds. "Well ain't that beautiful," she sighed to herself. There was a fuzzy feeling inside her, a warmth she felt while looking at the sunset. Her thoughts drifted to Horton. Why Horton? She tried to focus on the view, but her mind kept wandering back towards Horton. I wonder what he's doing now. Is he thinking about me?
Suddenly, Mayzie snapped upright. "Am I... crushing on Horton!?" she said, almost incredulously. "There's no way. Not happening. I mean sure he's sweet, but he ain't exactly my type of guy!" She began pacing in circles around her egg. "Well, actually... he's friendly, loyal, kind... maybe he is the kinda guy I'm looking for. But what would people say! I know it shouldn't matter but still... And I don't even know how he feels about me. Ugh! I gotta get some sleep!"
With this, Mayzie nestled on top of her egg and closed her eyes. Her head was still filled with thoughts about Horton, but eventually sleep overtook her.
The sun rose and with it came a new day. Mayzie awoke to the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. "Oh yeah!" she exclaimed. "Horton's coming over today!" She felt giddy. For the first time in three weeks, she had something to look forward to.
At about half past noon, Mayzie heard footsteps below her tree. She peered down from her nest, and sure enough, it was Horton.
"Hello Mayzie!"
"Hi Horton! Please, come join me!"
Horton climbed up the tree and sat down next to Mayzie as he did the day before.
