Prologue
My mind wandered back to my childhood days, where Mother had told me stories of pirates. In the stories, the ladies always would walk the plank for honor. Dignity, maybe. Chivalry.
That's exactly how I felt now.
I almost laughed at the irony of my situation, considered it, then changed my mind. Cal raised an eyebrow at me quizzically, but it didn't last for more than a second. I was used to things like that. After all, I was just another toy. To use for a while and then throw away. I was of little importance to anyone.
The car stopped abruptly, and the chauffeur came to open the door, as usual. I stepped out into the bright sunlight, but it felt cold and harsh against my skin. Nothing like sunlight should feel.
And I knew why.
I watched Cal out of the corner of my eye. This ship, the ship of dreams, was taking me to my personal nightmare. My marriage to a demon on earth. My bruises from Cal were a promise to myself and him of our undeniable relationship- one of mistrust.
In fact, I doubted myself to ever trust anyone else ever again.
I turned to walk up the massive gangplank, and as I did so, I thought instantly of Peter Pan, and Captain Hook... The countless stories I had read as a child and never understood the real-life value of them.
Like Mother always said, "People believe in dreams." This ship was living proof of that. All people believed dreams could and did come true.
They forget to mention nightmares are dreams, too.
My gaze meandered to the bow of the ship, where 7 little letters stamped neatly on the side told me everything I ever needed to know.
Ship of dreams, to some.
Unsinkable, to many.
No matter who, the name was well-known among everyone in Southampton.
Titanic.
