A tap on the door caused Harlem to look up from her phone as she texted Saniya. "Miss Harlem, your ride is here!" Anita spoke.
"Coming." Harlem responded, looking herself over one last time in the full length mirror in her bedroom.
Unplugging her phone from the charger, she grabbed her backpack from the computer chair jogging down the spiral staircase.
"Have a great day of school Miss Harlem." Anita smiled.
"See you later." Harlem responded, walking out of the house toward the suv.
"Good morning Harlem." Robert greeted, opening the back seat for her.
"Good Morning Robert."
"You seem like you're in a better mood than before." Robert said, as he sat behind the wheel.
"I am, I got to spend sometime with my mom yesterday and that's really what I needed."
"That's good." Robert spoke, driving toward the school
"Yeah." Harlem smiled.
Silence fell between them as Harlem looked out the window watching the same scenery as they pulled up to the curb of the school.
"Alright Miss Harlem, I'll pick you up after school."
"Okay." She nodded exiting out of the suv closing the door behind herself.
With her head held high Harlem walked into the school. All eyes were on her once again.
But this time was different.
The atmosphere felt off causing Harlem to look around. Her eye brow arose noticing a couple of people whispering to their friends while looking at her, some even pointing at her as they whispered.
"Hey Girl." Harlem greeted Saniya with a smile as Saniya grabbed her belongings as well. "I don't know if it's just me or is everyone watching me?"
Saniya glanced around before opening her locker door. "They're watching you."
"Why? I didn't do anything."
"So you don't know?"
"Know what?" Harlem asked confused, pulling out her history book slamming the locker shut.
Saniya pulled her phone from her back pocket typing in her passcode opening the local news app.
"Look."Saniya spoke, placing her phone into Harlem's hand.
"Husband and wife, Judge David Collins and Dr. Fatima Collins, sentenced to 10 years both for embezzlement. -Starnews
"WHAT!?" Harlem yelled nearly dropping Saniya iPhone on the ground.
"Arrested? I-I just saw them last night before going to bed? When did all this happen?" She asked herself looking at Saniya with tears in her eyes.
Saniya gave her friend a sympathetic look holding her arms out as Harlem cried on her shoulder. "It's okay boo, we'll get to the bottom of this."
