A kitten.
A black and gray skinny kitten followed me to the park from the zoo.
Its a scrawny little thing. Its barely got any skin on it. You could count the bones on its rib cage easily.
I don't know where it came from.
It's probably just some hobo cat that belonged to a homeless guy or something. It doesn't even have a collar on. It kept meowing to get my attention when it started to follow me. After Amelia and her mother left me alone in the zoo, I got up and headed my way to Central Park. Even though i was forbidden to sleep in the trees, I could still sleep near a bush or on the grass. Maybe on a bench.
That's when I heard the meowing.
It's a soft, raspy meow that kitten has. It sounds like it's choking on a hairball or something. I kept on walking, ignoring that thing.
It wouldn't shut up.
I sighed an aggravated one has turned around to face my stalker. I put my hands on my bony hips and gave that kitten the stink eye. It stopped in its tracks and sat down. It looked up to me with its big, round blue crystal eyes.
"Now,now kitty, here the deal. I don't have any money, food, or a house to take care of you. You're just going to have to defend yourself, alone. Bye bye ."
The kitten kept staring at me.
"You heard me! Go!!!" I yelled. The kitten shriveled back in fear. I was about to SCREAM when my stomach rumbled. Ouch,I felt the burn. I groaned and held my stomach. The kitten straightened up and meowed some more.
I gave up. I had go and scavenge for some food.
I walked up to the nearest dumpster, with the kitten high on my tail. I opened a lid and dove in. It smelled horrific. I'm surprised my nostrils didn't flare up from the foul stench. My hand got cut by a can top. I fished it out. What luck, a tuna can! The kitten began to make more and louder noises. I ripped off the sharp top and laid the can by the kitten. It began to feast on it ferociously. I squatted down to watch.
After a few minutes of watching it, I got up and started fishing for my own dinner. I felt something soft and pulled it out. A red ribbon. It's silk was still shiny. And it's color wasn't even faded despite being in that retched dumpster. A collar. I could use this as a collar!
I looked down to my kitten." Hey," I said. The kitten immediately stopped and looked up towards me. "Just stay still okay?" I bend down and wrapped the ribbon around the kitten's skinny neck. It didn't even flinch. I tied a small knot around its neck. I checked to make sure it wasn't tight. Perfect. I stood up." Go back to eating kitty," I said softly.
It did.
When the kitten was done eating ,I began to walk over to the park. The kitten walked on right beside me. When I reached the park, I scanned the area for a bush. A comfy looking one was parked across the park. I ran toward it. The kitten tried to run to, But it was too weak. Noticing that it wasn't following me, I slowed down and turned around. The kitten was breathing fast and heavy. It began to wheeze and then it fainted. I stood still. I gasped and ran to it. I picked it up gently and carried in my arms. I saw its chest go up and down.Good, it was breathing. I headed over to my bush and plopped on the grass. I looked down into my arms to see a sleeping kitten. It's chest moved slowly. I decided not to lie down and disturb it. Instead I stayed up all night, watching over it and stroking it's back.
Later that morning, something was gnawing on my fingers. It was the kitten, wide awaked. I groaned and shook myself to wake up. I must have dozed off something during the night. It was bright morning and everyone was out and about the park. The park seemed so alive.
The kitten began to race rapidly. It ran up ahead a beckoned for me to follow it with its meows and head. I stood up and hobbled. My legs fell asleep from me being criss crossed last night. As i walked,my legs stretched. I ran after the kitten, who raced between people, across streets and twist and turned through the city. It turned left into an ally. A big dumpster bin was there, Lid was wide opened. The kitten began to meow and and had its paws in the bin itself.
Anger began to boil my blood. This kitten woke me up form breakfast?!?!!
Oh well, I was hungry myself. I trudged toward the bin and looked inside it. I couldn't believe my eyes. Inside was mounds of food! And not eaten food, fresh out of the oven food.
There were sandwiches, burgers, candy, tuna, fishes, smoothies, shakes, and fries. I grabbed multiple cans, ripped off all the lids, and laid it down near the kitten. It began to feast. I myself pulled out burgers and milkshakes. We spent an hour eating and eating these delicious foods.
I was so surprised! Where.. Has this all came from??

I looked up towards the sky.God maybe ?
I looked back down to my kitten who was munching on its fishy breakfast happily. It must have spent the morning, trying to track down food for us. For me.
After that morning, me and that scrawny kitten were inseparable. We walked all over the city together. We fished out moldy buns and bread from the dumpster behind McDonald's for our fellow flyers, the pigeons. We would both skip, dance, and ran across Central Park. We would eat our meals together. We looked at shop displays together. We would watched the news together. We slept together by our same bush.
Days became weeks. Weeks became months.
3 months since I met my kitten on that very day after the zoo.
3 months that I wasn't alone for.
As we laid by our bush that night, I thought.
I wasn't alone anymore. I had a friend. I had someone who I loved. Who loves me. I had someone whom I protect. Who protects me. I'm not alone. Anymore.
Now I k ow how it feels like to have a friend.
A few days later, it poured over the city. Dark clouds hung like laundry on a clothes line. It was silent. Like the kind of silence that could kill a person.
I woke up in the park, soaking wet and cold. I looked around me.
No kitten.
I stood up in a lightning flash. I zoomed across the park and into the heart of the city. I kept screaming for my kitten. I crossed over streets, buildings, stores. I turned on a right to Reading Dr. I walked along its sidewalk, when I spotted something torn up on the road. I couldn't see with all the rain spattering into my eyes.
A lightning flashed its bright light over the city.
It was enough light for me to see a run down kitten that was squished by a car. It probably got ran over.
Oh yeah.

The kitten had a red ribbon tied around its neck.
