Aragog was a friend of Hagrid and it was due to that friendship that Aragog gave Harry and Ron answers. That the monster was not him and Hagrid was not the one who opened the chamber of secrets. Though he wasn't the monster that killed the girl fifty years ago, he was reluctant to speak of what was. Even spiders were fearful of the creature that was behind the attacks.Ron was terrified of all the spiders around him, and took every opportunity he could to get Harry to leave, but Harry Didn't. The petrification of Hermione and the attack on Vega strengthened his will to figure all of this out and end things. Ron finally got Harry attention to see that they were surrounded by spiders and that they were being trapped. Just then the Wesley enchanted car swooped in to get them out of the situation. Ron hazardly drove it through the dark forrest and finally got them in the air and away back to outside of Hagrids hut.
"Follow the spiders! Follow the spiders! If Hagrid ever gets out of Azkaban, I'll kill him" Ron exclaimed as the enchanted car stared itself up again and left them. "I mean what was the point of sending us in there? What have we found out?"
"We know one thing." Harry replied "Hagrid never opened the chamber of secrets. He was innocent."
---------
Harry and Ron were visiting Hermione. Harry changed the flowers by her bedside.
"I asked Professor McGonagall about Vega. She eventually told me that when she got to St Mungos the had to perform numerous about of healing charms but, she's going to make a full recovery." Harry told Ron the turned to Hermione "Wish you were here as well Hermonie. We need the two of you. Now more than ever." Harry stroked her hand, as well as feeling something in her hand. he took out a crumpled piece of paper.
"What's that?" Ron asked as Harry opened it up and looked at it.
"This is why Hermione was in the library the day she was attacked. Come on." the two left their friend and made their way through the halls "Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years instant death awaits any who meat this giant servants eye. Spiders flee before it." Harry read out the text.
"Ron this is it. The monster in the chamber of secrets is a basilisk. That's why I can here is speak. It's a snake." Harry figured it out.
"But if it kills by looking people ion the eye, why is no one dead?" Ron asked and Harry thought about it, he then caught sight of his reflection. Then they started walking again.
"Because no one did look it in the eye. Not directly at least. Colin saw it through his camera. Justin...Justin must have seen the Basilisk through nearly headless Nick. Nick got the full blast of it. But he's a ghost, he couldn't die again. And Hermione had the mirror. I bet you she was using it to look around corners in case it came along"
"And Mrs Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror, Harry." Ron replied
"The water." Harry thought "There was water on the floor that night. She only saw the basilisk's reflection." Harry went next to the light to see better "Spiders flee before it, it all fits."
"Two things. How's the basilisk getting around and where does Vega fit into this, it's hardly a coincidence that she was attacked as well."
"Hermione's answered that too." Harry showed him written on the paper was pipes and Vega's necklace. "Vega's necklace, it's a talisman created centuries ago to protect the wearer from a basalisk attack. The centre is a mirror tiny but when confronted with the serpent attracts their eye and has the reverse effect. Whoever attacked Vega knew she had this, they destroyed the talisman and Vega was working on repairing it, they stopped her from doing that."
"So their in the plumbing and they've knew Vega had the one thing that was known to stop it."
"Remember what Aragog said about that girl 50 years ago? She died in a bathroom? What if she never left?" Ron caught on to this train of thought.
"Moaning Myrtle."
"All students are to return to their house dormitories at once." Professor McGonagall came over the speaker. "All teachers to the second floor corridor immediately." The boys headed for the second floor. The teachers rushed to the scene as well.
"As you can see, the heir of Slytherin had left another message. Our worst fear has been realised. A student has been taken by the monster into the chamber itself." The boys overheard McGonagall. "The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts." Just the Lockhart strode in like nothing was wrong.
"So sorry. dozed off. What have I missed?" he asked
"A girl; has been snatched by the monster, Lockhart. Your moment has come at last." Snape answered
"My... my moment?" Lockhart wondered
"Weren't you just saying last night, that you've known all along where the entrance to the chamber of secrets is?" Snape caught him in the lie.
"That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy. Your skills after all are legend" Professor McGonagall added
"Very well. I'll just be in my office getting...Getting ready." Lockhart left
"Who has the monster taken Minerva?" Madam Pomfrey wondered
"Ginny Weasley." That hit Ron like a brick and the message didn't help 'Her skeleton will lie in the chamber forever' It read. The boys headed off to see Lockhart and ran into his classroom
"Lockhart may be useless, but he's going to try and get into the chamber." Harry called back "At least we can tell him what we know." the ran up the stairs and into the office. Lockhart was scrambling about packing
"Professor, we have some information for you." they saw what he was doing "Are you going somewhere?" Harry glared at him.
"Well, yes. Urgent call. Unavoidable. Got to go." Lockhart replied
"What about my sister?" Ron exclaimed
"Well...As to that, most unfortunate. No one regrets more than I." Lockhart continued to pack
"Your the defence against the Dark Arts teacher. You can't go now." Ron retorted
"I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the description about..." Harry cut him off as he tried to get past them.
"Running away? After all that stuff you did in your book?" Harry exclaimed
"Books can be misleading." Lockhart retorted
"You wrote them."
"My dear boy, use your common sense. My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done those things." he exclaimed back to the 12 year old.
"You're a fraud. You've been taking credit for what other wizards have done." Harry figured
"Is there anything you can do?" Ron asked
"Yes, now you mention it. I'm rather gifted with memory charms/ Otherwise you see all those other wizards would have gone blabbing and I wouldn't have sold another book. " Lockhart slowly moved towards his want "In fact, I'm going to have to do the same to you." the boys quickly took our their wand aiming it at him.
"Don't even think about it." Harry gestured for him to lower his wand which he did.
