Wonwoo found himself in Jeonghan's chamber the next day confiding about his inability to recognize a few characters in the medical records. They spent hours determining different types of poison they could get information on.
One thing was sure the poison used on a member of royal family was different each time.
Their attepmt to become wannabe Detectives brought them together for many sleepless nights.
Wonwoo's daily schedule was now filled with training with Mingyu, sleepless banters with Jeonghan and sometimes dinner with Prince Chan. Chan fell in love with the broth of Mingyu.
His nightmares were not so frequent now and Mingyu's smile only gave him a fuzzy feeling instead of his brother's memory.
Fall blended into snowy winters. Amidst all the uncertainities and cloaked half truths, Wonwoo felt a sense of belonging, even though this feeling was fleeting.
"We will trace the poison somehow but what are we going to do about the disappearance of my mother? That was part of the deal, I hope you remember." Jeonghan inquired one night.
"We have no lead except that letter. We can't even prove it's forged. Should we go outside the palace and look for rumors."
"You think I didn't try that? People just make up nasty theories of their own. And I can't go outside, there are a lot of spies in the district. We can't risk it."
He slammed his book away.He knew Wonwoo was trying to help but he tried for years to find his mother, this fruitless endeavor was getting to him.
"Should I go then looking for information. " On normal circumstances Wonwoo won't lift a feet outside but all these dead ends about the disappearance was making him frustrated.
"What will you do about Mingyu? He can't know what are we investigating."
"I will figure something out." Wonwoo sighed as he took in the distressed expression of the crown prince.
He bade the Prince good night and gave Seungcheol a soft smile as he walked out of the chamber.
It became a habit for the guard to accompany Wonwoo outside the residence to Mingyu. As usual they walked in silence but the guard decided to break the silence this night
"Third Prince?"
"Yes?"
"You won't betray the Crown Prince right? I think he wants to believe in you, so I hope you don't falter in your loyalty."
"I want to believe the crown prince too." Wonwoo looked back towards Seungcheol's determined eyes.
"Right. Mingyu is waiting there. Good Night. " He bowed and left like a swift wind.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to wait?" Wonwoo walked up to the raven eyed boy.
"I have to wait because it's my duty." He beamed.
"Ah its cold outside. Wait inside from now on. It's getting very cold each day." Wonwoo heaved.
"Okay Hyung." Mingyu knew the prince was wary of him, still weirdly enough he was happy to be around the prince. There were no expectations laid on him and it felt calming.
