December 5th
📍Lexi's car- Harper -
"'Hey Harp'? Seriously?" I slouched into Lexi's passenger seat in a mood, narrowly avoiding hitting my head off the doorframe. My red scarf covered my chin as I buried my face into it.
"Good morning to you too, sunshine." She reapplied her gloss in her sun visor's mirror, looking like she's about to star in a 2000's music video while I could get mistaken for being her annoying little sister who's yet to discover makeup.
"James' letter came." I explained while she slipped the gloss' wand back into the tube.
"'Hey harp," I put on my worst English accent, "sorry I ghosted you completely and didn't even wish you a happy Thanksgiving, your letter didn't come and I forgot you existed. How's cheer? I'm living my best life with a bunch of hot rich kids. How's that book you're reading? Write back soon! James'.""I'm not sure what to take from this." She snapped the visor shut, turning to me. "We're still mad because he didn't speak to you on thanksgiving?"
"Yes." I said, like it wasn't already obvious. "He didn't even bother call. Or text. Or acknowledge my existence until my letter fell onto his door step. I'm sure he only picked it up out of convenience because his fancy-ass tennis club runs an anti-littering campaign-"
"Harper." She raised an eyebrow, silencing me with her cold look. "You rejected him. I'd be pretty icy too if I was him. Plus, he's not lying in bed all day doing nothing. He might actually be busy."
I don't like this weird friendship they formed during Halloween. "You're supposed to be on my side."
"I am, one hundred percent, I'm just trying to give you reasons as to why he's acting like this."
Being able to tell Lexi everything really took a weight off my shoulders. She's practical, and is helping me see every perspective so I don't jump to conclusions. She knows all about the letters, and what happened while he was home. She's also super excited about his return for Christmas because it will be like her own 'reality tv show'.
Personally, I think she's so invested in it to take her mind off her own reality-tv-show-worthy life right now. She's living out her main character dream. Her brother's best friend fantasy. And... she's barely telling me anything.
"Enough about me." I groaned, putting on my seat belt. "You, young lady, haven't been filling me in on everything 'Eric'."
"There's not much to tell." She lied, keeping her eyes glued to the road as we took off towards the mall.
