Rhavena Targaryen, 5 days of a name

THE LITTLE princess ran through the corridors of the Red Keep as her older sister, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, chased after her. Both of them engaged in laughter and games.
So animated were both princesses, neither noticed when they had reached their mother's room, where cries could be heard on the other side of the half-open door.

Rhaenyra quickly took her little sister's arm and pulled her towards her, both girls hiding as they peered into the gloomy room.

"Another son, Viserys, how can the gods allow this" cried Queen Aemma, grief-stricken as the maester broke the unfortunate news of her son's passing.
"I know, Aemma, I know. The Seven look upon our misfortune, and soon shall they reward us with infinite blessings upon our family. The time to bring a boy into the world will come, our heir is on his way."

After her father's words, only her mother's sobs were heard.

"Come, Rhavena, we have to go, we can't stay here," the elder sister took her youngest hand and led her away from the room.

When they reached privacy, Rhaenyra noticed her little sister's downcast expression.

"Hey, what's the trouble?"
"Nyra...what if mother can't bring a boy? Will you be queen?"
"I don't know, but don't think about it, Vena, everything is going to be all right."
"But you should be the heir by now! Why hasn't father named you yet?" As much as Rhaenyra wanted to put the matter to rest, her insistent little sister would not give up.
"You'll understand when you're older, it doesn't work that way for women, Rhavena."

But the girl could not see how she could ever understand that. Her mother was queen, she didn't see why her sister couldn't be. Boys were stupid, at least most of the ones she'd known in her short lifetime, and Rhaenyra was the king's firstborn, she should be the heir, not a baby who couldn't even stay alive.
It would sound cruel, but Rhavena never wanted to think about having a baby brother. Before, it would have been a dream, but when everyone at court began to freak out over the lack of an heir, and the pressure to produce one was stressing her mother, Rhavena wished that all the babies they had would be girls. Then, between them all, could they convince the world that Rhaenyra should be the next queen of Westeros.

"Valītsossa issi doru-borto (boys are stupid)," she complained as she frowned in disgust.

Rhaenyra laughed. For as long as they could remember, High Valyrian had been taught to them. One could almost say they learned their mother tongue before the common tongue. Both princesses took their lessons to heart, preferring to learn to speak the language of their ancestors, deceiving every unfamiliar ear.
