hold my girl

"just... let me hold my girl." was all maria had to say for cap and the others to leave.

maria was quaterbacking at the Helicarrier while nat and the others were on a mission. but suddenly, nat's comms went silent and there were grenades exploding at the same time.

"nat? natasha? natasha come in. agent natalia alianovna romanova come in!" maria screams out through nat's comms.

"jeez, you don't have to call me by my full name just to get my attention, hill." nat said, struggling to breathe.

"thank god, romanoff. i thought you were gone." maria said, letting out a sigh.

"you can't get rid of me that easy. i'm the black widow after all." nat said, her smirk can be heard through the comms.

"are you okay? med team are on their way to you right now." maria asked and informed her at the same time.

"well, i was on top of one grenade when it exploded. so, not really." nat said wincing when she moves a little to stop the blood running down her abdomen.

"okay. yeah, okay. um, can you tell me your injuries?" maria asked her trying not to panic about the fact that her wife was on top of a grenade when it exploded.

"yup. a few burns on my legs and arms, 2 gunshots on my left shoulder, one on the abdomen, three cuts on my right leg, a big cut on my left leg, but i can't feel it because my um, my uh, my left leg is stuck under a giant rock. yeah, that's all." nat said ignoring the pain all over her body and trying to focus on getting her left leg out.

"okay. hang on tight, med team is 20 minutes out." informed maria to her wife.

"okay. maria, i- i gotta talk to you." nat said.

"okay. do you want me to clear the room?" maria asked her.

"yeah. yes, please." nat said, starting to lose conciousness because of too many blood-lost.

"EVERYBODY OUT OF THE ROOM. NOW!" maria yells at the agents and even fury.

"okay. they're out now. what did you want to talk to me about?" maria asked nat, worried about what might comes next.

"ria, if i die-"

"no. no. we're not talking about this. no." maria interrupted nat before she could even finish the sentence.

"no, stop. we are talking about this. if i die, promise me you'll take care of alya and yourself." nat said, so soft that you can't hear it if you aren't wearing an ear piece like maria.

"i promise."

"good. because if you break your promise, i'll haunt you for the rest of your life." nat said with a threatening voice.

"you love me too much to haunt me." maria said, smirking.

"i know." those words were the words that nat said before her comms went silent. but this time, a part of maria knew that she won't answer her questions or listen to her voice. still, she talked to her.

"tasha? natasha? answer me, please. stay with me, nat. stay with me." maria said holding back her tears.

"FURY SHE'S NOT ANSWERING ANYMORE WHY THE HELL IS THE MED TEAM STILL 10 MINUTES OUT FROM HER LOCATION" maria screams out loud enough for fury to hear her from outside the room.

fury came in through the door with other agents and started walking towards maria.

"agent hill, calm down. the med team is on the field right now helping agent romanoff and other members of the team." fury said trying to calm himself too because, hell, natasha is one of his best agents and someone who he considers as his own daughter.

"okay. good." maria said, sitting down on the floor. then she started to cry.

"i- i can't lose her, nick. she's the love of my life and i love her too much to let go of her. i can't let go of her and i won't. and i don't even know what to tell alya when i get home and she's not there to tell her about the funny parts of the mission. i just can't." maria said between sobs.

"i know. and you won't have to let go of her or tell alya that her mama's not here anymore because she will pull through this. i'm sure of it." said fury.

suddenly the Helicarrier's doors opened and there she was, laying there on a gurney, half-dead. maria runs right after seeing nat's little smile.

"hey you." nat said trying to hug maria but regretting it because of the sudden pain she felt on her body.

"oh thank thor. don't move, okay? you'll hurt yourself even more." maria said while cupping nat's face.

"but i want to hug you.." a pout appeared on natasha's as soon as she said the words.

"okay, okay." maria said, holding back a smile.

after nat is cleaned and patched up, maria was already holding natasha in her arms, afraid that if she lets go natasha will disappear. maria heard a knock on the door and tried to ignore it, but the knocks keep coming again and again. sighing, she stood up from their bed to see who's at the door.
opening the door, she saw cap and the team standing there with flowers and nat's favorite things.

"um, can we come in?" steve said looking at the woman in front of him.

"sorry, guys. she's sleeping right now and i still need some private time with her after that close call. just... let me hold my girl. for now. but you can leave the presents and flowers here, thank you, by the way." was all maria had to say for cap and the others to gather the presents and flowers and give them to maria.

"okay, take all the time you need, we'll wait." steve said.

"oh and tell her i got her the chocolate she asked for two years ago." clint said from behind steve.

"will do, barton." maria said.

"okay, see you later, commander." the team said before going to the lift and back to their own apartments.
