As the light shone through the opening of your cave, you groaned in almost physical pain as though you were stabbed. You twisted and contorted to shake the vision of your nightmares from your slumber, feeling rather empty inside at the thought. A series of cracks had released from your back when you finally propped yourself up to a sitting position on your bed, still replaying what you had remembered from your dream.

It was like re-living the worst moment in your life. There had been a time, long ago, when you were walking around the island. You were still young and very much full of innocence and youth, completely unaware of what was about to transpire and how it would affect the rest of your life. In all your peacefulness, you had unknowingly stumbled into some uncharted territory, yet to be discovered by Water Island's human master. The place was dark and rather dense in the bubbly forest that hadn't been excavated away at, and sadly you had wandered onto a more violent path. What had happened was quick and painless in the moment; A rabid Cybop had lashed out at you for reasons unknown. But, your instincts had kicked in and it all felt like a blur from there. You had given into your monstrous nature and purely defended yourself without holding back. The pain and guilt of what you had done had only set in after you realized you had taken the life of the poor Cybop.

The only one who knows of what you had done was none other than the human master themselves, of which gave you a scolding, but ultimately understood why you had done it. They knew you, and they always believed you were a monster who meant no harm. Even with their comfort, you still never really forgave yourself. As much as you were told your actions were justified, you still grew up with the heavy secret you bore.

Even though your day had started off with a rather rough memory recall, you were still determined to leave your cave to join the few others who were also waking up. Even seeing your fellow monster island-dwellers made bile rise to your throat at the udder shame you had felt. You had often wondered, did the human tell them? Did they know? Do they hate me?

In complete contraction to your insecure and panicked thoughts, the Epic Wubbox of the island was innocently looking down at you, a sparkle prominent in his eyes as usual; he was always happy to see you. The relationship you two shared was...obviously more than what you both claimed it to be. Despite your innermost thoughts, the other monsters adored you. You were completely blinded by your trauma to the way the other monsters treated you. Because of all your assumptions and insecurities, you would never know what high regards they had toward you. With the Water Wubbox being so close to you, he obviously knew how reserved you were and that sometimes you would just go completely silent, and become lost to your innermost thoughts.

And right now, he could definitely tell it'd be pretty prominent today, judging by your far-out gaze. When it came to this, he was pretty awkward about it. He didn't really know how to approach you in this state so he just went with his gut and spoke to you, "You're up pretty early. We don't start for at least another hour, why don't we hang out for a bit?"

His words took you by surprise, and you quickly snapped out of your wandering mind. Embarrassed you hadn't noticed the nearly 20-foot robotic monster approaching, you quickly found your words, "Oh hey! Sorry, I didn't notice you were coming," You fully turned your attention to him whilst fiddling with your clawed phalanges, "That'd be great, Water."

Feeling a sense of accomplishment, you both decided to take the long way to your designated spots, cutting through some of the structures to stop and chat along the way. It was all too familiar to you both, as ever since you were both placed next to each other by the human, you quickly grew as friends despite his standoffish nature. At first, you didn't care for his snarky tone when addressing the human, nor the way he rolled his eyes when he was asked to lower his volume. Over time though, you grew to laugh at these traits and often teased him for being prudent and bossy, and he ultimately appreciated it. Now a few months later, your friendship blossomed into that of an on-the-verge of being romantic. Even on the way, you both were teased by one of the island's Jeeode, once again insinuating you both looked like a cute couple. You were actually pretty oblivious to this kind of thing, but when you weren't around Water would get pretty defensive.

Currently you both were parked right where you usually resided during the day, really only waiting for the lot of monsters to awaken and start the usual song, leaving you both to continue your chatting. It would be an estimated hour until you'd start so you were getting pretty comfortable. Although, still tense from your shaken memories from the night before, you were speaking rather jittery, which Water had no clue behind it.

"Don't you think it's pretty annoying that the human can decide which monster sings and who can't?" He now asked you, somewhat sarcastic and somewhat serious, "Like, we were made to make noises so just let us, am I right?" He half-expected you to add onto his playful jab at the comment but then observed you harboring that-far out look again. Pretty lost on what to do, he muttered your name, but retrieved no response. Then, he decided to make a pretty dicey decision and gently– and very slowly lift a giant finger and brush it to your side, in an attempt to poke you back to reality. In response, you flinched a bit.

"Sorry," you attempted to laugh off, the memory you were replaying had actually vanished the moment he touched you and was then replaced by various fantasies of him as this was the first time he had ever touched you, "I really don't know why I'm like this today..."

As he was about to question further, his words, again, became completely drowned out when you caught sight of one of the Cybops on the island. Then, your fuzzy fantasies of the monster before you were again pushed back in your brain and replaced by a riptide of the horrendous memory you re-lived the previous night. You had physically jumped back, feeling like you had the wind knocked out of you. The Water Wubbox quickly noticed your startled reaction and maneuvered his large hands to catch you before you would hit your head on the rock behind you. He cursed under his breath– at the human for not removing the rock beforehand but let it go once he felt your shaking body against his hands.

Trying to think, he was well-aware of the monsters in the area. So, to avoid any assumptions he lifted you off the ground, hastily but as gently as he could. Making his way back to his resting place– where he preferred the silence and serenity the forest had to offer. Trying to hurry as he felt your trembling continue (he couldn't tell if you were trembling from your thoughts, or, and he hoped not, the position he was holding you in.) The wubbox frantically lowered his hands to offer you a way down, but you didn't take it and opted to stay in his hands.

With his hands outstretched and raised to eye-level, he whispered, "[Y/N], are you alright? Talk to me." With no response given from you, he looked around, almost searching for an answer. He opted again to go with his gut and lower you just a bit so you were underneath his head. Unbeknownst to him, the sounds of the gears whirring and faint bubbly effects brought you a little comfort. Paired with the low, but almost silent growl with each breath he took slowly but surely brought you out of your episode and enough for you to manage a small, "...sorry."

He raised his hands to be level with you again, and he whispered, "You have nothing to be sorry for. What happened?"

You tried to find the words to respond, as looking into his eyes you could see the swirls of hurt and worry in his eyes growing with each silent second. Seconds turned to minutes without you providing an explanation, but he sighed and mustered a small smile for you, "It's okay, you can tell me when you feel alright with it."

You blew out a relieved sigh and calmored up to your feet, beckoning for him to draw you closer. He raised an eyebrow but complied, watching you rise to your feet to place a small peck to the corner of his mouth, and in response you heard the whirr of his fan from behind, accompanied by a slew of bubbles. He lowered you to the ground, blushing a dark blue from your small action and muttered a 'thanks,' bewildered.

Sure, you weren't able to tell him your horrifying story yet, but you would vow to ease into it some day. After all, you loved him and you knew he loved you, but it'd still take some time for you to open up.

Time he would give you.
