Chapter 1

Casey's P.O.V

"Honey, we're moving." My parent's words hit me like a ton of bricks and I nearly fell out of my chair I'm so shocked.

"What?! What do you mean we're moving?!?! We can't move! This is London! This is my home!"

My mother looks over at dad with a nervous expression.

"Casey, I know that you might be upset now but when you get to Seattle, you will just be taken with the city." He says with a wistful and faraway look in his eyes. "Just like I was when I first saw it." He is referring to his supposedly "magical" business trip there last month. Which was when he apparently decided to ruin my life and take me away from everything I've ever known. Too angry to roll my eyes, I say;

"Seattle? Really? You are ditching London beautiful, wonderful, London, for Seattle. The city that never sees the sun?" My father clears his throat and pushes his chair away from the table.

"I'm sorry Casey, but we're moving. Whether you want to, or not. We leave when summer ends." And just like that, he's gone. Mom throws one last sympathetic glance my way, and follows him out the door. I am sitting alone in the living room, mouth agape, utterly stunned. The end of summer? Summer is only a few days away, that means I have aproximently two months and three days, until I leave. I feel my eyes well up and I slowly stand and walk to the kitchen. I grab the phone off the counter and dial Sophie's number. It rings a few times and she finally picks up.

"Hello? Casey is that you?" I am crying too hard to reply.

"Casey? Casey what happened? Are you okay?" Sophie sounds frantic.

"I'm.... moving." I manage to choke out between sobs.

"I'll be right there don't move." She yells hurriedly into the phone and then I hear the dial tone. Ten minutes later, Sophie's keys are the door, and I know that it's her, because my parents ditched me, and she's the only other person with keys. She has her own set of keys in case there was an emergency and I couldn't get to the door. This, is one of those emergencies. When she comes in, Sophie finds me crumbled up into a ball on the floor, my face, tear stained and small whimpers escaping my throat. She runs over and scoops my head off the ground and into her lap. She comforts me for a while, until I am completely out of tears.

"When do you leave?" Sophie asks quietly once we are both in seated positions, leaning our backs against the dining room wall.

"End of summer." I croak out. My voice is hoarse, and raspy.

"That's... soon." My best friend whispers. As she looks down at her twiddling thumbs. I nod and we stay silent for a few moments. Sophie claps her hands and rises to her feet.

"No more moping! What you need is a special treat,so why don't you go clean yourself up and we can go out for some ice cream. Kay?" She half suggests, half orders in a way too annoyingly excited tone. She's losing her best friend, whom she has known her entire eighteen year old life, and she wants to go out for a frozen dairy treat instead of sitting at home and crying! What is this world coming to? At a snail's pace I stand up and trudge up the stairs and to my room. When I get to my bathroom, I splash cold water on my red and blotchy face. As I shove my forehead into a white, fluffy towel, I hear a hysterical scream from my living room. I rush down the stairs yelling for Sophie. When I reach her, She is not lying on the floor, writhing in pain like I expected. Instead she is jumping up an down and clapping her hands, in front of the t.v. I glance up to see what she is so worked up over, One Direction. Her best friend in the whole wide world is leaving and what is she doing? Religiously watching a One Direction interview. That is just wrong.
