"Rieko!" I called out peering through the corners of my eyes while looking for Rieko.

"I give up!" I call out again and hear a tussle of leaves behinds me, I quickly turn around to see Rieko standing in the fields or plants that were taller than both of us.

"Rieko, I have to go home soon." I spoke quickly waiting for his response but instead he slightly nodded.

"Okay, but we will see each other again right Carmen?" He speaks up and I nod quickly. I begin to hear mamas high pitched voice calling out through the rows of plants in the field.

Me and Rieko rushed through the plants hand in hand racing towards my mothers voice, but before we could get to her Rieko stopped me.

"Promise me we will meet again." Rieko said sounding very confident. And I giggled slightly. Poo"Of course Rieko." I smiled, splitting my face with a grin that showed off my teeth.

I woke up in a cold sweat from my dream. I glanced at the alarm clock and it read five. I wiped the sheet of sweat off of my forehead and jumped out of bed.

I paced around my room grabbing clothes and my hairbrush from all around the crowded room. I stepped into the bathroom barley glancing at the mirror but still catching a glimpse of my golden hair framing my face and my dazzling emerald eyes.

I stepped in and out of my clothes and brushed out the rats-nest that is made atop of my head. A pain strikes through my head as  the hairbrush tangles and un-tangles from my hair.

My scalp felt more and more fragile until I was finally finished and wiping my watery eyes with the sleeves of my shirt. My phone buzzed on my nightstand and I rushed towards it and answered on the third ring.

"Hello?" I called out into the phone waiting for a response, "Hello Carmen, when do you think you will be here?"

I immediately realized what he was talking about and made a move towards my closet for my shoes. I slide them on and answer Detective Masons question.

"I will probably be there around five-thirty, if that's alright."

I hear him sigh and my shoulders tense while I'm immediately overwhelmed and overthinking. "Yes Carmen, that would be perfect."

By the time he's speaking I'm rushing out of my apartment and down the street with red and yellow leaves crunching underneath my shoes. The sound of water dripping from roofs to the concrete because of the rainstorm that had just passed.

A car passed across the pavement causing water to splash up and onto my clothes. I sighed sagging my shoulders but quickly squaring them again when it sent a shiver down my spine.

Detective Mason had hung up long ago probably annoyed with my tendency to block people out while they're speaking. My mind was ablaze, plenty of people were assigned cases yesterday. Zahira Abebe, a murder case that went cold. Aaron Burkes, a recent missing persons case. And me? A person that recently reported a cartel.

Several other people were working with me but we all did our parts mostly alone, only ready to work together to make the bust. I was dreading the moment. A whole mafia working together, a cartel growing. Just what I fucking needed.
