I woke up from my light sleep, with a searing pain in my wrist. I clenched my teeth and looked down, to see that I was perfectly fine. The pain slowly intensified, and continued to spread throughout the rest of my body. There was a throbbing pain at the nape of my neck, and I could practically feel my brain throbbing against the walls of my scull. I cried out, tugging on my hair to try to make the horrible pain go away.
Soon the pain was everywhere. All the way down my spine, through my legs, and even at the tips of my toes. Everything hurt, the pain was excruciating. What made it even worse that it felt that it was over a hundred degrees in the room. Sweat poured off my body, and screams escaped past my lips. I sobbed so loudly, the entire pack house was bound to here, yet no one came. I didn't know what was happening, and I kept on hoping the pack doctor would barge into my room to diagnose me, to just make the unbearable pain go away.
Then suddenly, there was a loud crack that echoed around the room, and I screamed so loud it hurt my own ears. My spine had broken, and then the rest of my bones seemed to shatter. Even the small bones in my fingers snapped. I felt my jaw pop, then extend in an inhumane nature.
And then, I fully understood what was happening. My first shift, which I never imagined would be this bad.
I heard my cloths tearing, and I rolled off of my bed and onto the floor. My pores seemed to open, and I felt the fur sprouting out of my skin. All of my bones made one final agonizing pop, then all the pain was gone. All that was left was the soreness and exhaustion of the shift.
I was wobbly on my feet...on my paws, but I slowly walked toward the large mirror on my wall. All I could do was stare at the orange eyes of my wolf. My fur was dark brown, with a rusty undertone. My ears were pure black, and so was the heart shape outlining my face. My fur was long and wispy, and I couldn't get over how beautiful my wolf was and how blessed I was.
Hello Willow, A voice in my head said, with a thick accent. My name is Kai, Navajo for willow tree. The Moon Goddess chose me to be your spirit. The voice said, and I smiled. I forced myself to shift back, by staring at a picture of myself on the wall, remembering my human form, like I was taught to when I was younger.
"So I have a wolf now?" I asked, keeping my voice low, trying to not sound insane.
Yes Willow, you have a wolf now. Do I have a human now? Kai teased, and I grinned.
"I guess you do." I said, then a delicious scent took control of all of my senses. That is our mate, Willow, you have to find him.
I ran to my closet and pulled on a new pair of cotton shorts, and a red lifeguard pullover hoodie. The scent was within the house, so I opted out on shoes, not wanting to waste anymore time. I was surprise at the amount of excitement and adrenaline running through my veins, which pushed me to sprint out of my room, and bolt down the hall.
I navigated the scent, following it down halls, and down the stairs, which I took three at a time. The house was pitch black, but with my new found sight, I could see everything. My feet barely touched the floor as I ran, I practically flew through the house. I steered my way into the kitchen, twisted around the island, nearly running into in my haste, and continued down the last hall.
