Originally the plot for my best friend's lover.

---

It was summer last year— or was it? I couldn't remember when exactly, but I do remember my hand trembling cold while waiting, that until you stood next to me and held my hand.

You noticed me shivering and slightly shook your head, your hand reaching to hold mine without me noticing. You gave it three light squeezes, while your thumb run soft circles on the back of it.

I also remember you saying something along the lines of; "Relax Jen, you'll be a part of it like the usual."

My eyes were glued to the bulletin board and waited for the student aide to post the notice. "What's taking it so long?" I whined, squeezing your hand back with nervousness.

"Jennie Kim has always been in the honor roll." You said, your words partnered with your soft voice never failing to reassure me.

"What if I didn't make it this year? I swear I feel like I didn't do enough." I huff, shaking my head to throw the unwanted thoughts from building in my mind.

"You did more than enough."

I raise my head to catch your wandering eyes. They laid on mine and you smiled wide— so wide that it reached your eyes.

"I should blame you if I don't make it, Park." I spat, glaring hard at you.

"What?" You ask, only to laugh after.

"I should have been studying more in the library instead of letting you touch my lips from the back of the bleachers." I mumble to myself, but I was sure you heard it.

Because you laughed, and then we waited and waited. I asked you if you were tired, but you gently shook your head and told me you will wait with me with a genuine smile on your lips.

I guess it was at that moment when I realized I have fallen in love.

I have fallen in love with someone I shouldn't have.

Perhaps that was the reason why I was so against entertaining my feelings. I don't have many friends and falling in love with you meant losing you in the long run.

And I don't want to lose you.

But before I knew it, we started going to bars under the disguise of drinking our heartbreaks off. You would make-up reasons just to see me past midnight, and I would gladly come along with you despite knowing it was all made up.

And then it's your hands on my legs and the way your lips tasted like cherry and mint. It was the morning coffee, the afternoon study dates and the late-night driving, singing 90's R&B's.

Until one night, you asked me to be yours and I say friends and nothing more.

Your light blonde hair gently flows along the cool wind, and you look back at me with a soft laugh and enigmatic eyes. "What are you afraid of?"

I held your eyes for a moment before shying away. I stayed silent but, in my mind, I'm thinking falling in love.

And I thought things would change... and maybe it did— but was it for the better?

You no longer sit straight on the couch whenever I'm around, instead you take up all my space to the point where my mom notices the closeness between us and commented on how we would make a cute couple.
