midnight fireworks

new year's eve, 2015.

a day after jisoo's birthday.

the seventeen dorms were chaos, the preparations for the new years have just begun.

the performance team was assigned to take down the birthday decorations they set up for jisoo, while the rest of them pitched in to bringing the blankets and snacks up to the roof of their apartment.

mingyu was moving speedily around the kitchen, preparing final snacks and packing up the cake they had bought for the new year. seokmin entered the kitchen, mingyu immediately gesturing for the shorter to bring the packed cake up to their planned spot.

"don't you dare drop it lee seokmin." mingyu threatened, seokmin just laughing. "alright got it, kim mingyu." mingyu grinned, canines sticking out before he returned to finishing up the snacks.

seokmin carefully took the boxed cake and brought it out of the kitchen, nearly bumping into seungcheol who was bringing out the large blankets that was supposed to provide a decent seating for the thirteen of them. "careful min-" seungcheol said, seokmin moving out of the way so seungcheol could go out first. "sorry hyung-"

jeonghan appeared from down the hallway, a scarf in hand. "choi seungcheol you are going to freeze if you go out in that-" seungcheol turned his head back, offered jeonghan a grin before walking right out of the dorms. "hey-!" jeonghan ran after him, struggling to tie the scarf snugly around seungcheol's neck as the two waited for the elevator.

jisoo came out of the hallway that lead to their rooms after a few seconds, an extra jacket draped over his arm as he watched jeonghan successfully tie the scarf around seungcheol's neck. seokmin noticed jisoo and gestured for the older to join him in waiting for the elevator.

"minnie are you wearing enough?" jisoo asked, noticing seokmin's lack of layers for the cold december air. "hm? oh i'll be fine shua hyung." seokmin said, giving jisoo a bright smile as the four of them stepped into the elevator.

the elevator open its doors on the highest floor they could reach, meeting jihoon and hansol, the two about to return back to their dorms to retrieve the last blanket, but stopped when they realized seungcheol had a couple piled in his arms.

jihoon took a few from seungcheol, passing them to hansol as he walked ahead to open the door that lead to the staircase that took them up to the community roof space.

once jihoon had opened the door to the rooftop, a gust of cold winter wind blew into the small stairwell, causing seokmin to shiver at the sudden change in temperature. he heard jisoo giggle slightly behind him, a pout naturally appearing on his lips as he paused his steps to throw jisoo a glance.

when he had turned back, he saw jisoo smiling at him innocently, which then made seokmin turn around quickly to catch up to the other boys who had already advanced out of the stairwell. he heard jisoo behind him the entire time.

they followed jihoon to the area they had begun to set up already, hansol and seungcheol laying down the final blanket on the floor of the rooftop with the help of jihoon and jeonghan. seokmin placed the cake down next to the small growing pile of snacks that have already been brought up, probably by seungkwan. seokmin rubbed his hands on his arms, trying to warm himself up as jisoo threw the jacket he had brought over seokmin's shoulders.

"i told you it would be cold minnie." the older of the pair said, a grin resting on his lips as seokmin gave the other a half hearted glare in return, slipping his arms into the sleeves and hugging himself.

seungkwan was setting up the speaker they brought, connecting it to his phone while wonwoo was checking that the microphone was charged and working. "ah ah, checking." the microphone projected wonwoo's voice nicely, before being snatched away immediately by seungkwan, who had started to play some playlist the younger had saved on his phone.
