it was october the 4th, yoon jeonghan's birthday.

joshua had been happy the whole day, sticking close to the birthday boy the entire duration of the day.

they'd walked into some random shop, finding zodiac signs printed on candles.

joshua picked up a purple one, the libra symbol stuck onto the glass container as a label. "hannie look! it's yours." he said, handing it over to jeonghan.

"oh that's pretty shua." jeonghan said, a small smile on his face as he turned it around in his hands. "what was your zodiac sign again?"

joshua's smile faltered. "capricorn." he answered.

jeonghan hummed in response, and joshua could see his eyes scanning over the array of candles displayed in front of him.

"was it for december or january?" jeonghan asked offhandedly, and something struck joshua right in the heart.

"it's december, don't you know my birthday?"

"nah, i'm too forgetful. it's definitely in my calendar though." jeonghan says as he picks up a light, baby blue candle. "this one reminds me of you." jeonghan says, handing it to joshua with a smile.

"isn't your birthday like, december 23? it's close, i'll get this one for you if you like it." jeonghan says, no longer paying careful attention to joshua's expression.

joshua's phone buzzes with a notification, and when he read it three hours later, vernon's asking when he's returning to the states.

he flew miles upon miles to surprise his high school best friend for his birthday, and now his best friend no longer remembers his birthday.

when he reads vernon's question three hours later, he responds with one word.

"tomorrow."
