It was one in the morning and Hiradhi could not sleep. He tossed and turned, but he could not get comfortable. Finally, he turned and looked out his window. As he did, the street lights all turned off and it was pitch black.

Finally, He thought, darkness. I can sleep now.

So he did.

"You'll never be one of them. You're one of us, and you always will be. You can't change that."

The voices were whispering again.

"Dude, stop scaring the poor kid. He's only 16. He probably doesn't even know what we are."

"But he should."

"You and I both know he doesn't. You gotta remember he grew up around Humans."

"Then let's teach him. He has to find out one way or another."

"Fair enough. But don't scare him too much."

Hiradhi woke up from his nightmare. He never told anyone about it, he couldn't; he didn't know what it meant. He had the same one almost every single night since he turned 12.

There was a loud crash. Hiradhi jumped, and he quickly turned to face his bedroom door. His father rushed into the room, and without hesitating he quickly ran and opened Hiradhi's window. He kicked the screen off.

"What's going on?" the boy asked.

"No time to explain. You have to leave. Lola's already safe, so don't worry about her." His father quickly informed. He motioned his son to exit out of the window. Hiradhi got out of bed, and was handed the car keys. "Kris is waiting at the shop, when you get there she'll drive so you wont get into any accidents. I know how much the last one scared you. NOW GO!"

Hiradhi, still in his pyjamas, crawled out the window and went as fast as he could to the car. As he did, he heard another loud crash from inside the house and tried his best to go faster.

He got into the car and started it immediately. He drove to his father's shop.

Like Mr. Mosai said, Kris was waiting for him there. She ran toward the car and opened the driver door. Hiradhi noticed she had a backpack on.

"Glad to see you not dead, how'd you get here so fast? Aren't you just now learning how to walk again?" She asked him, half joking.

"Yeah, I am." He said, in a laugh. "Didn't you like, just now graduate? Why do you have a backpack?"

"Money, stupid. Now scoot over, I'm driving." She ordered. Hiradhi compiled.

"Do you know where we need to go?" Kris asked once she got into the vehicle.

"No, I don't have my phone. I panicked a little while my dad was pushing me out of the house." He said. "Do you know what's going on?"

"I have no clue. Your dad was very frantic when he texted me to come and drive you, and it's too late to go back. Lucky for you, we're going to Vancouver." She said.

Hiradhi was surprised. "Vancouver?! Lucky?! That's across the country! That's not lucky at all!"

"I know it is, I was being sarcastic. But we'll go through the states as well." Kris smiled.

"So we'll live a day in the life of a U.S. citizen?" Hiradhi's mood changed.

"Hopefully not. Those reports from In the States are kinda crazy."
