The car ride was silent.
The young girl squirmed in her seat. She felt uncomfortable, looking outside the window to try and distract herself from the vehicle moving, flinching at every hole they went over. She was sitting in the backseat, on the right side. Scott was in the passenger's seat and Isaac was just sitting in the backseat, not even wearing a seatbelt.
Both the teens shared worried looks when they felt her shift uncomfortably. Isaac hadn't told Scott everything about what happened in the stall, only telling him that she had felt sick.
Lexie sat straight in her seat, seatbelt tight, not averting her gaze from the blurred outdoors. She thought about how she was literally trusting an Argent to not kill her. She thought about how, even if it felt weird saying it, she wanted to go back to school. She just wanted one more chance to experience normality. She missed Joel, and she wasn't a very patient person.
Joel had been the person who helped her catch a glimpse of what a normal child's life should be like, and honestly, she wanted more. More than a glimpse, more than a little taste. She needed more than that, her stomach bubbling with despair. She would do anything, anything, to have her family back. Her parents. Her siblings.
She exhaled shakily at the thought of her twin brother, his young body engulfed in bright orange flames. She hated this feeling. She hated remembering things she craved to forget.
The car came to a stop, and Lexie wasted no time in taking the seatbelt off and opening the car door, taking in a deep breath of air when she was out. She looked up at Scott when he approached her. "Alright?" he whispered, only for her to hear. Lexie nodded, trying to send him a small smile.
"Where's Derek?" Argent asked, looking around the empty street, looking for the alpha werewolf. The girl started to look around as well, trying to find her brother. Was he hiding? Was her uncle okay? Was her brother even here? Peter and Derek were the only people from her old life left.
Lexie's look turned to one of amusement when she saw Derek running towards them on all fours. She raised her eyebrows in mock surprise. Showoff.
He stopped in front of them with a flip, crimson red eyes glowing. Lexie rolled her eyes, walking towards her brother with a 'really?' look. Derek shrugged at her, a smirk tugging at his lips.
She heard someone arrive behind him. "Someone certainly enjoys making an entrance."
Uncle Peter.
Lexie sucked in a rush of air, taking a subtle step back. She remembered what Scott had said some time ago, "He did bad things." and "He tried to kill us all." The girl didn't know what to think, especially with Derek's comment, when Peter said he wouldn't hurt her, "You never know."
What happened while she wasn't here?
"I'm here for Jackson, not you." Argent stated, firmly.
That was evident.
"Somehow I don't find that very comforting." Derek responded, arms crossed over his chest. Lexie had to say she agreed, she didn't like that man. His surname made evil memories flash in front of her eyes. She wanted to take a shower and scrub off her skin the Argent name. She also wanted to talk to her brother. About nothing, about everything. "Get him inside." Derek finished.
They walked inside, Isaac and Scott carrying the kanima's body.
"Where are they?" Scott asked, looking around the seemingly abandoned place.
"Who?" both the Hale siblings asked the beta. Lexie didn't know they were waiting for someone.
"Peter and Lydia." Scott said that as if it was obvious. "Woah," he continued, alarmed when he saw the alpha reaching for the zipper. Lexie took a step back when he pulled it down, afraid of what could happen. "Wait a second, you said you knew how to save him." Scott stated, a hidden questioning tone in his voice.
