I found myself running again. Through the rain that was pouring around me. It was dark and cold, stormy weather. I needed to get away again. It was just all too much. I was crying, and could barely see. I knew where to go, this happened pretty often. My best friend, the only person who knew my story, my past, my dreams. I could be myself, vent, cry, and she would comfort me.she was always there for me and I for her.

I turned onto her street and continued to run. Once I reached her front yard, I pulled out my phone and texted her. "Open up, I'm outside" and began to climb the tree next to her window, then carefully climbed onto the roof. It was slippery from the rain, but I sat down and waited for her to open her window.

After a few minutes, I heard shuffling inside the room and the window opened. "What are you doing?! It's freezing out here!" She exclaimed, pulling me into her room through the window. She grabbed a towel from her bathroom and put it around me. She glance at my face and wiped the tears streaking my face. "What happened this time?" She inquired.

"He was high when he came home, and immediately started drinking. I tried to get him to go to bed for work in the morning, but he slapped me. He told me that I should mind my own business, but I told him it was my business if he gets fired. I was sick of him. He grabbed me by my hair and held me against the wall. He said that I should be grateful for the roof above my head and the food on the table. That's all he said. He dropped me, then walked out the door. I noticed Amanda had been watching he whole thing." I explained to her. Trying not to start crying while recalling the events from just a half hour ago. "Where is she now?" Ashley asked me. " I put her to bed and then came here, he won't hurt her though. He doesn't ever touch her. She reminds him too much of her." I said in response, explaining that my little sister looks like an exact replica of our mother. She had died 3 years ago in a car accident, and that's when things started going downhill for my family.

"Everything's gonna be alright, stay the night if you want. I'll get you some dry clothes." And she walked to the closet and pulled out some extra clothes for me to wear. " Mom won't care you're here, we can tell her in the morning. It's not like it isn't your second home." She laughed, trying to lighten the mood. "Okay" I agreed, laying on her bed, and falling asleep almost instantly.
