it was my first day on the job. i just graduated from
Georgetown and was immediately hired. usually it takes years to build up a professional status impressive enough to catch the eyes of the FBI, but I spent my senior year interning at the BAU and next thing I knew I was getting a call from Erin Strauss. even though I had spent the last 9 months working under Aaron Hotchner, I was still nervous about officially becoming an agent.

for my first day back, I decided on wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a white long sleeved t-shirt. I bought myself a new pair of black combat boots for this very occasion and I couldn't help but smile at my reflection in the mirror. my FBI card hanging from my belt loop, and my empty holster on the other side.

my thoughts were interrupted when the ring of my cell phone chimed.

emily prentiss: here!

I smiled down at the text from emily, she promised she'd give me a ride to work today and not to my surprise, she stayed true to her word. I chewed on my lip as i gathered the rest of my things before locking up my apartment.

I had a good relationship with all my new coworkers, but my bond with emily was different. she was the first to make me feel like less of an outsider. Being surrounded by profilers all day can be mentally draining, but Emily never made me feel like I was any less of one. Maybe that was because she saw herself in me, or in her words; I'm like the sister she never had. I'm not going to lie, it hurt my heart a bit hearing her say that. Although she had become one of my bestest friends, and she was much older than me, it's safe to say I had a bit of a crush on her. I'd never admit that out loud though.

"Ready for your first day, Agent Evans?" Emily teased as I opened the passenger door. I think she could tell I was nervous because her voice suddenly became softer. "Hey, today is no different than any other day." She rubbed my shoulder in a soothing manner.

"I know, I know. I'm just so excited! Well, nervous... but mostly excited!" I rambled, playing with my hands.

Emily shook her head and sighed playfully as she began to drive.

I made the boys promise not to give Claire a hard time today. She's practically a baby, now a baby with a gun. She called me the night Strauss hired her, I could practically feel the enthusiasm through the phone. When the team threw her goodbye party, not in a million years would I have imagined she'd be coming back just months later. Not because she's a bad agent, of course not, Claire is nothing but wonderful. But just because we never hire fresh out of school.

I pull into my parking spot at Quantico. Claire had asked me if she could wait in the car for a few moments to gather her thoughts, but I knew she just wanted to use her key card to enter the building for the first time. But of course I agreed and made my way up to our floor.

"Where's Claire?" Was the first thing Morgan asked as I walked into the bullpen.

I placed my purse and jacket on my desk. "Good morning to you too" I teased. "She'll be up in a minute."

"I cleaned her office out for her, her name tag even came in early, look." Spencer handed me the gold plate that read 'Clair Evans' in black print.

"Take another look hot shot, you spelt her name wrong." I rolled my eyes, pointing to the missing e.

Spencer gasped turning it around to get a better look. "You're kidding.." He sighed, moping back into her office.

Minutes later the elevator buzzed and all heads turned to face the young blonde. "Welcome back Evans!" Morgan greeted.

"Where is she?! Where is she?! I made cookies!" Garcia rushed in, pulling Claire into a hug.

"Hi Penelope." She giggled, taking a look at the cookies.

"They're oatmeal raisin, your favorite." Garcia smiled widely handing her the container. She locked arms with the new agent and walked into the bullpen to greet everyone else.

"Fixed it!" Spencer stopped mid-step once he saw Claire. "You're back! Hi!" He waved. I shook my head at Reid's awkwardness when I noticed the missing letter written in sharpie.

We didn't have any cases today which meant a full workload of filing. I of course would've rather been on the jet about now, but part of me was hoping Claire's first day wouldn't be too hectic. I scribbled down some notes in my legal pad when I saw a certain blonde pop into my office.

"Hey! Hotch gave us the ok to leave early." She grinned, taking a seat on my desk.

"As much as I'd like that, I still have so much paperwork."

Claire groaned. "But you're my ride home."

I pouted my lip back at her. "Aw, I guess you'll need to carpool with Reid."

She nodded and made small talk with me before walking out of mg office. "Wait, what're you doing tonight?"

She quickly turned back around and looked to the ceiling in thought. "Uh, nothing. I assumed we'd have a busy day and I'd be too swamped to make plans." She chuckled. She was adorable.

"Why don't I stop by once I finish up, I'll pick up Chinese?" I suggested, hoping she'd take the offer.

Her eyes lit up and she nodded. "Ooo yes please. I'll see you then." She smiled and walked out. I chuckled to myself before returning to my filing.

After Reid so kindly dropped me off at my apartment, I knew I had to do a quick tidying before Emily popped by. I was so absorbed with finding the perfect outfit I didn't even think to clean up the piles of clothes all over my floor.

Once the tile was visible again, I turned on the tv to Sex and the City while I did some laundry. As the time went by I started to regret not staying and offering my help to Emily. I didn't realize just how far behind in her files she was until hours had passed. By the time I finished all my chores and housework, I sat on the couch and watched Carrie Bradshaw fight with Big. Not even noticing my eyes becoming heavy.
