Werewolves, vampires, mermaids, and witches were not just bedtime stories for the children who wouldn't retire to sleep; but real, very real. They all peacefully coexisted, thanks to the ancestors who drew up truces to keep one race from ever interfering with another. They neither protected nor meddled, just carried on with whatever their respective routine was.
At the top of the hierarchy sat the witches with their immense power to snap the neck of anyone who stood against them. It was either away from or with them, never against them. You did not want to experience their wrath, nope! But just like any other being, they too had their shortcomings.
They lived in covens and one strike against their ancestors and they would be singled out. Their powers would drain slowly like thallium poisoning leaving them defenseless and as prey to the other races. The witches were always on the giving side and had not much to take. The ancestors were thirsty for blood sacrifices to satiate their blood lust and this meant sacrificing one of their own to a late one of their own.
They had no way around it. The witches had to sacrifice a specific number of witches every year and failure to meet this demand resulted in the entire coven being deprived of the powers promised to them. But it was not much, so it did not matter. What did matter was the wrath of the ancestors which wiped them off the face of the earth.
So the witches lived their miserable life in the shadows away from the other beings of the earth.
Next to them sat the vampires. The sun-o-phobic ugly blood suckers- well, some were hot- were the second most powerful of the mystical creatures. They were (unfortunately) the immortal beings out of all the others.
They were nocturnal, hunting at night. The ruthless creatures were the most fastest in all the earth. Yup, double superlative. That's how fast they were! They had literally no competitors. Vampires also had the most useful power of compulsion. They could make their prey stand still while they fed from their neck.
Vampires usually loved the loud bars at night. Blinding lights and loud music could mask away their vices of the night. A few shots and a few hickies later, the vampire would suck off the human's blood leaving them dry and dead.
This continued until the humans had had enough. The human population was on a decline while the vampires grew since most humans were being turned. That was, until the humans proposed a treaty.
'We set you up blood banks and you leave our people alone. If you promise to stay away, we promise to help you with the sun by joining hands with the witches.'
The Sun burned down vampires ruthlessly. A few seconds in the light and the beings would be burnt to a nice crisp until there was nothing but ashes left. The vampires were also bothering the new witches who were yet to have control over their powers. Before the young witches could even cast a spell, their neck would be pierced by the two sharp fangs.
Thus the witches agreed to hold hands with the humans and together they proposed to hand out Sunlight rings for the ones who agreed for peace within the population. The humans made the rings while the witches crafted it with their magic and made the vampires immune to sunlight.
The last in the hierarchy were the werewolves. They were the least magical yet the strongest ones. They had the stamina of a thousand machines and were built like steel. Most of the wolves had the power to resist a vampire's compulsion but some were not built so.
The werewolf species comprised of four classes. True bloods, Alphas, Betas and Omegas. Alphas mostly were the rulers and lead a pack while the betas would be the pack members. In most cases an alpha mated with a beta. That helped keep the population in check since betas were not as fertile as the omegas.
