I watched the lovetropics event and then wanted bek to be canon to empires, I might end up finishing this way later and I was planning on uploading this to ao3 but never finished so here you go!-
The blue trident was pointed directly at his neck, the sharp prongs just barely an inch away from piercing Scott's throat and filling the dark water with his blood. His hands were up in surrender in an attempt to not be brutally murdered in the deep ocean.
Scott slightly thanked himself for setting up the conduit before he had gotten the sharp weapon pointed at him, as he would've been dead if he hadn't.
The person holding the trident had light brown hair with the fronts bleached blonde, the hair floating around her head like a crown on the side of her head however feathery yellow-gold things swirled next to her hair. A flat-ish yellow tail that reminded him of something swayed behind her, and upon further inspection the skin between her fingers was webbed. He thought about it for a moment.
Then it clicked.
She was an axolotl hybrid. That was certainly interesting. Scott had only ever heard of one before, but that person lived thousands of years before their current day.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" She questioned, bubbles escaping her mouth as she spoke.
"I'm an explorer," the trident pushed closer to him, and he flinched.
"Being an explorer doesn't give you a free pass to simply waltz onto sacred lands," she shot back.
Scott studied the sandy area behind the figure. The place certainly didn't look very sacred. A sunken ship built out of dark oak wood, surrounded by shrine-looking buildings and houses, with the cyan copper roofs caked in seagrass.
"I didn't know it was sacred, my- um, ally," he caught himself before saying friend. Ever since he brought Owen to Tumble Town things between him and Jimmy had been a little awkward between the two. Which was why he had been relieved when Jimmy had, "told me about this place because he thought I'd think it was interesting, I wasn't planning on doing anything, I swear,"
Her golden tail lashed in frustration, stirring up the sand behind her into a mini cloud.
"I knew I should've killed that hat guy. I cannot believe he told other humans."
Scott raised an eyebrow, "Jimmy didn't mention anyone being here, he said it was abandoned,"
The axolotl hybrid waved her trident-free hand dismissively.
"Yeah, yeah I wasn't human when he stopped by, I tried to get him away, but he didn't leave for a while. He tried to feed me kelp, of all things," her tone was incredibly annoyed for someone who was simply talking about a type of seagrass and Scott might have laughed if the person complaining didn't have a literal weapon that could stab him at any moment still pointing at his throat. "Anyway, like I said I tried to lead a few drowned to kill him but he left before I found any, unfortunately."
Scott didn't specifically feel like that was an unfortunate occurrence but he brushed it off in favor of questioning her on something else.
"What do you mean you weren't human then? Were you not always human?"
She gave him a look. "No, natural-born axolotl hybrids don't exist anymore. So I'm obviously not a naturally born axolotl hybrid."
So he had been right about the extinct axolotl hybrids. That still didn't explain how she had turned human.
"Do you know why you're part human now?" he asked, trying to shift away from the trident as much as he could. Luckily, she didn't notice.
"No, not really, it just sort of, you know, happened," she shrugged.
The whole mob turned-human thing reminded Scott an awful lot of Owen which gave him an idea. His plan mainly was just because maybe if he turned her back into an axolotl she would let him explore the ruins."I have a friend," he inched away from the trident more, "She's turned people into humans and then back to mobs before, maybe she could turn you back into one?"
The person stood there, considering for a moment.
"And what do you get out of this? How do I know you're not tricking me?" The trident moved close to his throat again.
"You, get to be a mob again and I get to explore the ruins," Scott watched her face carefully before adding; "with your guidance of course."
She scanned Scott up and down. "How far?"
"Couple thoushsnd blocks I'd say, my kingdom is by Stratos."
She narrowed her eyes. "Your kingdom?" she echoed, "I thought you said you were a explorer."
"I am, I'm just an explorer that also happens to rule an empire as well."
"Huh, I've never met someone who has a job and rules an empire, that's impressive."
