For the second time in her life, she felt the overwhelming pain of loss. Tears began pouring from her eyes. She cried silently as the pain consumed her.
The pain. That was her reason for being.
Why did it hurt so much to lose him?
"You don't remember why," He said, interrupting her train of thought. "But then I guess you don't have any reason to do so."
He stared blankly at her, waiting for her answer. She couldn't find her voice. She hadn't noticed the tears streaming down her cheeks until they dripped off her chin. She looked into his eyes again, searching for an explanation. All she could see was sadness in them. She was scared. She wasn't sure how to react to what she saw. How could he know everything yet still keep the truth hidden? What does he want? Does he actually know what she is really thinking?
She shook her head slowly as she stared into his eyes once again. She couldn't tell if it was due to fear or guilt. His lips curled upward, causing her eyes to widen. Before she could say anything he turned his back on her and took a seat down at the edge of the path. He stared straight ahead. His expression seemed so sad, so defeated, and that's exactly what caused her to feel guilty.
There was another pause. Another minute of silence as the wind blew lightly through the leaves of a nearby tree. He looked as though he was thinking something deeply. His facial expressions seemed more relaxed now.
"I'm sorry I can't remember." She whispered softly as she sat beside him.
"What?" He looked at her. His eyes were confused. She could see the same emotion reflected back at her in his eyes.
"I just can't. I just...I.." She trailed off. What was there to say? She couldn't explain.
"It's okay, it's all okay. You just can't and I perfectly understand that." he mumbled and smiled softly.
She blinked. Had he known what she would say before she said it? Or had he guessed it? Was this just a coincidence? No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember anything. It was like a wall had come between them, preventing her from remembering everything.
"I'm sorry," she repeated.
"Don't apologize. It's fine." He smiled at her again.
She nodded slowly. She didn't know what else to say. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to think. She didn't know what to feel. She didn't know anything anymore except for this overwhelming pain.
"Do you want to talk?'' He asked.
"About what?"
"About how we should meet again." He suggested.
"If I were to meet you here again it wouldn't make any sense to try to find out anything else about you. You are supposed to be just a figment of my imagination, or are you?"
He didn't respond. He paused and gazed at her eyes.
"I dreadfully need answers, please." She beseeches him.
The cold wind blew and he suddenly said, "Meet me at the churchyard at sundown."
She blinked in confusion. He stood up by a big tree and vanished with the wind.
"A churchyard?" she said to herself. Her thoughts started flowing inside her mind. Is he dead? Did I die? What could possibly be the reason why he's asking me to meet him at the churchyard?
Suddenly, she noticed the time passed by quickly as the sun began setting. She stood up quickly and rushed home. She lay in bed still drawn by her thoughts.
