The ghost ships rose. First the Octavia, commanded by Aerona. Then the Lewis, commanded by Erebus.

With each storm that autumn, the currents of the Saltum Sea ushered the ghost ships nearer and nearer the surface until they split the water. Upon reaching the air, the deafening screeches of their ghostly spell cast a glacial cold over the Kingdom, heralding: The Gelid Times.

Aerona and Erebus, skilful ghost leaders, knew themselves and their enemies. And the Kingdom was filled with their enemies. They also knew that the best strategy was to capture the Tree at Lux Brumalis and hence, the whole of the Kingdom. With one fell swoop, the deepest of freezes would weaken their enemies with hunger and sickness. And when the citizens of the Kingdom were close to death, Aerona and Erebus would attack, seize and enslave all, thus rendering the Tree at Lux Brumalis, the Saltum Sea and the entirety of the Kingdom, theirs. And this, Aerona and Erebus did with the greatest war strategy of all - patience.
