When MS Dhoni stepped down from captaincy and handed it over to virat, it never felt like the replacement of one captain by another, it rather felt like a king passing the crown to the prince. Here's an os to the smoothest transition ever seen in indian cricket.

30th October, 2016

The team was leaving the next day after playing a 5- match odi series against New Zealand. This was the last limited over fixture of Indian team for that year and MS had decided that it was the time he should pass the captaincy baton to his successor.

MS called Virat in the evening, he wanted to talk to him about him in person beforehand and this was the only opportunity he would be getting since the team had to play a long test series against England before starting with the odi series next January.

Virat, who was packing his bags picked up the call as soon as the bell rang, "Ji Bhai? "

"Virat are you free? " The voice came from the other end.

"Haan bhai kuchh kaam tha? "

"Nahi, bas I needed to talk to you, that's something really important"

"Thik hai, mai aata hu abhi aapke room pe, wahi ho na aap ? "

"Tu rehne de, mai aata hoon"

Virat looked at the condition of his room, there were clothes, shoes, gloves and pads scattered everywhere, there wasn't an inch space to sit.

"Mai aa raha hoon na bhai, bas abhi aaya " Virat said and ran to Mahi bhai's room.

MS was just done preparing two cups of coffee when Virat arrived. He handed Virat his cup and indicated him to sit on the couch "Chal baith baat karte hain"

Virat was puzzled, what could be the thing Mahi bhai wanted to talk about? Did he do something that was not to be done so he has called him to scold him? But he didn't look angry, and he would certainly not make coffee for him if that was the case. Then was it something related to the team? And why did Mahi bhai wanted to talk just to him alone?

Virat was just sipping his coffee silently while contemplating on these thoughts when MS spoke "Kaisi bani hai cheeku coffee? "

"Achhi bani hai bhai" Virat spoke confused when in reality he hadn't even realised he had already drunk half cup in his anxiety.

"Kya baat karni thi bhai waise? " Virat spoke finally, he was done being patient.

"This was the last white ball series of the year Cheeku " Mahi started saying.

"So? "

"So I guess this is the time you should take over the captaincy of all the three formats, I- "

MS was cut off by Virat who put his coffee on the sidetable and stood up abruptly, "DON'T TELL ME YOU ARE RETIRING, YOU CAN'T, YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN'T, AREY YE KOI UMR HAI RETIREMENT KI... "

"Cheeku sit down " MS tried to calm him down.

"NO FIRST TELL ME YOU ARE NOT RETIRING OTHERWISE I'LL- " Virat was cut off by a stern glare of MS.

"SIT. DOWN. VIRAT. I AM NOT RETIRING" MS said at once and Virat instantly sat down, being completely silent.

"Toh fir? " Virat spoke after a second's silence.

"Haan toh I was saying ki this is the time you be the all-format captain of India. I'm stepping down from limited overs captaincy. Bas itna hi, I'm not retiring "
