When I was 8 I stopped talking to my mum altogether. I only ever talked to Olivia and sometimes the kids at school. I became the "Weird quiet kid" that no one talked to.
The quiet kids are always the most dangerous though.
"Lucas can you answer question 3?" My teacher, Mr Huxley, asks. I don't like Mr Huxley all that much. He's strict and gets mad at the smallest things. I tend to be very quiet and not talk much around people I don't like. "Uh.. 20.." I say, quietly.
"Speak up." The teacher says.
"T-twenty" I say try to say a bit louder. Mr Huxley sighs, very dramatically in my opinion.
"I'll be seeing you after class Lucas."After class
"You need to talk up in class." Says Mr Huxley. "If you don't talk no one will hear your opinion and you won't get anywhere in life."
"I try to sir.." I respond, not much louder then a whisper
"Trying isn't good enough!" He yells. I start tearing up from the sudden yell. This happens a lot at home. My mum starts yelling, I tear up, she gets mad that I'm going to cry, she yells more.
"S-sorry sir." I mumble
"Get outta' my class." Mr Huxley says sternly.
"Yes M-mr Huxley." I run out of the classroom and to the bathrooms so no one would see me cry. As I was running, my head looking down and covering my face, I run straight into a girl. Mila Page, a nice girl in my year. I've talked to her maybe once or twice? She's friends with everyone and is always surrounded by people. I fall backwards onto my butt and she stumbles a bit.
"Omg are you ok? You're not hurt are you?" Mila asks, in her honey sweet voice.
Her friends around her start laughing at how pathetic I look, thick tears rolling down me face. I quickly stand up and start running again.
"Crybaby!" I hear one of the girls behind me yelling.
I hear insult after insult being thrown at me as I run away. I finally manage to find a tree on the outskirts of the school playground. I come here when I feel overwhelmed or upset. The tree has a branch that you can easily climb up to sit on. I climb up my tree and lay down on the branch, looking through the leaves to the oddly shaped clouds. I lay there for a while and then I hear a voice.
"This is a cool climbing tree!" I guess Mila found me. This has never happened before. No ones ever come to look for me. I sit up and look down at her.
"W-what do u want? Are y-you here to laugh at me li-like your friends did?" I say, trying not to stutter to much
"What? No of course not! They can be really horrible some times.." I climb down the tree so that I'm standing infront of her. I look at her, really look. I always thought Mila was a mean girl pretending to be nice, but she seems generally nice. Her light brown hair and baby smooth tan skin glowing in the sunlight"Your really sh-short" I say. She looks surprised then becomes angry. She's only up to my chin and I'm not even a tall kid.
"Well.. You're mean!" She says, failing to think of a come back.
"Nice c-come back shorty." I say, laughing.
"Whatever. Why where you crying when you ran into me?" Mila asks a looks up at me.
"I-I wasn't crying!" I say defensively.
"You obviously where, I'm not dumb." She says and puts her hands on her hips
"Fine. Mr Huxley y-yelled at me after class. I d-don't really do well with y-yelling.." I whisper and look at my feet. I feel Mila's arms rap around me as she pulls me into a hug. I kind of just stand there, not really knowing what to do.
"Why are you hugging me?" I ask
"Because you need a hug." She says
"I do?"
"Yeah"My first friend. My first real friend at 8 years old.
