Chapter 1- The Announcement (short)

'Fuck-' I mutter under my breath as the respawn screen presents itself.
*Ariisnotcool was slain by vindicator* read the death message on my computer and after a few seconds I burst out laughing.

I turned off the recording and respawned. Just as I was about to wonder where I had died, my eyes spotted a sticky note on the side of my screen. I'd written it down because of the woodland mansion I was in.

After a while of searching and multiple cooked beef been eaten, I arrived back at my death place and collected my belongings. Thankfully, they were all still here but only just because it had nearly been 5 minutes. I gathered myself and finished looting the mansion for totems and random jewels.

I had switched my recording off again to do my outro and when I got a ping from discord.
'It must just be another Youtuber uploading a video I thought so I ignored it and did my outro.'
'Thank you guys so much for watching and an even bigger thank you for 1000 subscribers! It means the world to me and with that, I'll see you next week with another upload! Bye bye!'

I turned off my recording, saved and closed minecraft and then went to discord to see what I was pinged for. I was kind of correct- It was from a Youtube server but it was a fan one.
The lifesteal fan server! Run by Parrot himself and a few other members. I was pinged in the 'announcements' channel which was used for new video updates and changes to anything we needed to know or they wanted us to know. However, today it was different. The message read:

@everyone Hello everyone! This is a special announcement so please read this message. We are excited to announce that one person from this server will be chosen to join lifesteal smp season 5! All you have to do to enter is react to this message within the first hour of it been sent and you will be put into a random name generator. From there we will pick a few people to do trials and whoever wins will join lifesteal as an official member. Good luck to you all!

It took me a few minutes for what the message said to sink in. Everyone in this server could have a chance at joining one of the most famous minecraft servers running? I checked the time the message was sent and the time now in comparison. I had 45 minutes it was fine. I reacted quickly to the message, double checked and then closed discord.

Even though there was all the excitement, I still had to edit my 1000 subscribers video for tomorrow, plus I have an interview too for tomorrow- Dang I'm busy tomorrow-. I didn't even realise. Luckily, I live alone and in a tiny compact apartment so I have nothing to disturb me. My brain wonders for a second and I zone out but then a loud band brings me back to earth. Never mind what I just said- my cat can disturb me.

Sighing, I get up and go to the kitchen. I pick the the pan she's just knocked off and look at her. She's staring innocently up and me and I can't help but smile. I stroke her behind her ear and she purrs then I pick her up and take her to my room. She stopped purring as soon as I pick her up and she tried to wriggle out of my arms so I put her down. I face my computer again and start editing the video. This is going to be a long night.

After a few hours I finally finish, and decide to check discord again. Even though I know I won't be picked I can still say I tried. The original message from Parrot has 600+ reactions and there is a whole new channel for just the message and where we can talk about it. All I can see are people fangirling and been overconfident that they will get it. I also see people @'ing Parrot or other staff and begging or people been basic, boring pick me's. There are normal people however, just chatting with friends and having a good time like always.

I look back at the announcement and see that someone has locked the message so no one else can react. I smile once again at the message, excitement filling me and then the peace is broken by and loud and irritable meow from Oreo. I turn and look at her and she is sat on my bed staring bullets at me.
'Why are you so angry-?' I ask and as if she understands me, she looks at her feeding bowl.
I raise my eyebrows. Hm.

After a few more minutes of meowing, I get up and put her dinner into the bowl.
'Happy?' I ask and she purrs loudly. I leave her in the kitchen and check the time. 11pm. Maybe I should go to sleep? Yeah.. Actually- No, I have to be a responsible adult. I cleared up and headed to sleep.
