Old Friends

"Why are you dragging me to some fancy Piltoven concert?" Vi grumbled at her blue haired friend.

Vi, a brawler at heart, adopted daughter to one of Zaun's hero's, Vander and most importantly an enforcer in Piltover; was being treated, or so her friend called it, to a night out.

"It's not a 'concert' it's called a ballad." Her friend corrects. "I hear the musician is breathtaking but not many people know about them yet. Meaning this will be perfect for you." Caitlyn tries to convince Vi that this will be fun. The brawler doesn't believe her friend one bit.

According to Caitlyn, this musician was from her home. This did not make her anymore happy about going to watch this "Ballad performance".

"Who in their right mind would want to go listen to music that makes you want to fall asleep?" Vi protested.

"Just try it. You might really enjoy it and who knows, maybe this will help you to relax a little." Caitlyn said as they walked side by side down the pristine streets of Piltover. Vi had never been to see music like this before but she was very sure it wouldn't be her kind of music.

Once the pair arrive at the rundown music hall, Caitlyn pays for the tickets and they wait for the show to begin. Just like her friend said, there weren't many people here, the tickets were cheap and the people who were here seemed to be of a lower class. Vi even swears that in the dimly lit hall she can make out a few Zaunties. Something she almost never imagined she would see in Piltover.

Her eyes leave the small crowd and start to scan the stage. In the very centre stands a single piano. Old and slightly battered, presumably from years of use.

"The show should be starting soon." Her friend whispers to her.

Vi doesn't respond, her eyes still glued to the stage. Her mind drifts off to memories of the past. Memories that still cause a dull ache in her chest to remember. The poor brawler begins to question why she allowed her friend to bring her here in the first place. She knew this was a bad idea.

Her trail of thought, however, is broken by a small girl appearing on stage. The first thing Vi notices is how everyone in the hall goes silent around her. Secondly, the girl's attire. Normally people from this rich and lavish part of the city wouldn't be caught dead in something so "outrageously Zaun" as Caitlyn's mother had once said to Vi. Lastly she noticed herself being drawn to the girl. But why?

Just moments before the performance starts, Vi's curiosity gets the better of her. She leans slightly closer to her friend and asks who the girl on stage is.

"I'm not sure. I've never seen her before." Caitlyn's reply leaves Vi's question unanswered as the show begins.

The girl below them starts to play and as soon as she does, Vi can't wait to leave. She's not been a big fan of piano since she was a teenager. Not since... Vi tries to bat away the memories of her younger self listening to a friend try to work the keys of Vander's dusty, beer stained piano. To avail.

She tries desperately again to hold back the flood of bittersweet memories this music reminds her of. Just as Vi's about to get up and leave, the music stops. Her eyes search the stage for anything wrong but all she sees is the silhouette of the girl.

The people around Vi and Caitlyn start to whisper amongst themselves. Vi on the other hand says nothing as she waits for something to happen. Seconds tick by. Nothing. But then after minutes of the girl sitting there, unmoving, she places her fingers back on the keys. The sound that echoes around the room as she does is familiar to Vi. All too familiar.
