Today was the day you and Vi were going to pride. Vi had never been before. Never felt the need to go. Yet, when you came in a few weeks ago holding a flyer up to her face. A cheerful looking drag queen adorning the front cover with a name she'd heard you say many times in the past, she knew that you would be attending. With or without Vi.

After joining a parade, getting a cool drink and then waiting in line for about 10 minutes. You two were finally at pride. The place was packed with people of all ages, genders and sexualities.

Vi had never seen so many lesbians in one place. It was quite something. Stands with flags and other accessories littered the place. She even spotted a place where queer folk could adopt. Which made Vi smile a little.

While Vi looked around with you close by, looking at all kinds of different earrings, each one representing its own sexuality. She spotted some girl. Said girl had come over and started to flirt with you, which of course, did not go down well with your red headed girlfriend. You on the other hand thought nothing of flirtatious manner the girl in front of you was so clearly displaying. Your girlfriend on the other hand would make sure she knew exactly who you belong to.

Vi soon made her way through the crowd of people and straight to you. As you chatted away, completely unaware of Vi's brewing jealousy, you felt a strong pair of hands snake around your waist from behind. Soon after Vi's chin was resting ever so lightly atop your shoulder. This was something you were used to and didn't even bat an eyelid at her close contact.

When Vi squeezed her arms around your waist just the tiniest bit, you reached a hand up to run your fingers along the freshly shaven side of her side of her hair. And the other hand came to rest on her arms. A simple action that you had done thousands of times before. An action you hadn't even fully registered you were doing. Yet, this small display of affection was all Vi needed to show others you weren't for sale. Not that Vi had ever thought of you as an item to be claimed or sold for that matter. No, Vi could never think of you like that. And if anyone ever did treat you in such a way. Well, let's just say they better be able to run long and fast.

Once the girl had seen how close you and Vi were, she asked you if you two were together. Which made you laugh that adorable, loving way you always did when anyone mentioned Vi around you. The laugh that said I love this woman. Your reply was a short and straight forward "Yes.". Which made Vi's heart melt all over again. It also made the girl in front of you awkwardly fiddle with the sunset lesbian necklace she wore.

"Oh." She said, the disappointment in her voice gave Vi the smallest piece of satisfaction. "How long have you been together for?" Her smile was clearly forced. Or at least, it was clear to Vi.

"Almost four years. Our anniversary is coming up next week." Vi could hear the happiness and excitement bubbling in the way you spoke. The necklace girl must have noticed it too as her whole body seemed to deflate at the words you so effortlessly spilled. And to add insult to injury she placed a soft kiss on your shoulder.

She revelled in the way this other girl looked so defeated. Once again she had proven how strong your bond was to others trying to break it. You had helped her achieve this without even realising it.

"Ah! So long. You two look so cute together!" This time the girl couldn't quite look you in the eye. Instead she searched the crowd of colourful flags, shirts and dresses. As if trying to figure out a way to escape this now awkward encounter. Luckily for her Vi wasn't a sadist. Although, she did love seeing the crushed look on peoples faces when they came to the realisation that the two of you were dating.

"Can we go get a drink?" Vi voice echoed through your ear. Almost making you shiver at the sudden closeness of it.

"Hm, okay." You said, giving her one last stroke and a squeeze to her arms. You then turned to the other girl. "It was lovely meeting you. If we see eachother again we'll have to swap numbers!" You were so blissfully unaware of this poor girl's attempts to flirt with you. Vi almost felt sorry for the girl, almost. But she couldn't find it in her heart to care about some random girl she'd, hopefully, never see again.

"Yeah, for sure!" Her eyes held a mixture of embarrassment and relief. Something of sure would once again go unnoticed by you. Just as most things involving people you hadn't know for a long period of time did.

You, Vi and the girl said your goodbyes and went off to find something to drink. Shortly after obtaining a couple of slushies, she went over to the main stage. There a drag queen of colour stood talking into a microphone and strutting around the stage. From where you were stood, you couldn't quite see over the tops of people's heads. At one point you started jumping to try and catch a glimpse of the colourfully dressed queen. Something you wouldn't have to do for long.

Vi had watched you jump a couple times, smirking at the way you tried so hard to jump as high as you could. Once she'd had enough of your cuteness, she grabbed you by the waist and hoisted you up and onto her shoulder. Causing a few people around you to look over and giggle at you. Even the drag queen made a comment about how strong your girlfriend was. And just like that. You watched the show from the safety of your girlfriend's shoulder.

After the drag queen had finished her part of the show, they started playing music as someone danced along to the music on stage. Which meant you had to ask Vi to put you down so you too could dance along to the music. It wasn't a sexy dance or a very extravagant one for that matter. More like a sway to the music with a bit of hand movement thrown in here and there. Nevertheless, Vi enjoyed watching how happy you looked. And when you turned to her with pure joy written into every nook and cranny on your face, she grabbed you. Pulled you into her chest and hugged. Swaying herself and you to the music.

The rest of the day was spent dancing and singing until home time. Upon getting home, you ran a bath while Vi went to buy snacks from the corner shop. When both tasks were completed, you bathed together. A perfect day, complete with the perfect girl. Is all Vi could think as you massaged shampoo into her scalp.
