On locking the door, Lissa broke down in tears. It had been a long day for her_ not only did she endure the loneliness out there but also had to learn that the only person she hoped to call her best friend betrayed her. After being toss about by her so called friends, she had hoped that this one would finally stay, after all, he was the one who had continued to hold on to their friendship, as a fly to a rotten food, despite being chased away. She should have known that he was the same as them and was only pretending to get close to her and get what he wanted.
Finally deciding that she had had enough, she wipe her tears and walked to her bed, hoping that by the next day, everything would be fine, perhaps go back to how it was before now.
"Lissa, are you in there? Let me in." David said as he knock on the door. Lissa quietly sat on the bed on hearing David voice hoping he would go away. She wondered what he was here to do, maybe he was here to tell more lies to her or act all innocent but whatever the case, Lissa made up her mind not to give him the satisfaction of seeing her broken.
"Lissa, Lissa, I know that you're in there, just open the door..." David said getting impatient. He worried as Lissa refused to open the door that something bad had happened to her. Pressing his right ear to the door, he tried to listen to know if there was any movement going on inside. Slightly panicking that something bad had happened when he heard no sound from inside, he quickly pull out the keys holder hoping to find spare key to Lissa room, they both had each other's. He had rush here immediately he heard of what happened and though he knew his Lissa was strong, he knew that when pushed too hard as exaggerated, she could do the unimaginable.
"... fine!" His eyes brightened when he saw the spare key. Opening the door, he met Lissa on the bed. The bulbs were switch off leaving just the lamp on and though the light was faint, one could still see the other. He sighed in relieve when he saw that she wasn't hurt physically and was still breathing fine.
"Lissa, Mellisa, listen I am sorry. It is not what you think, I didn't betray you..." He said and pause to see if she was paying attention to him.
"Please Mellisa say something..." He said walking to stand beside the bed where Lissa sat resting her head on the bed board "...shout, scream, cry, just do something please." He said in a broken tone. He never wanted to see her in tears, no he never wanted to be the reasons for her sadness, all he ever wanted was her happiness, to see her happy. He knew that she would be depressed soon if he didn't do something to stop it. "Mellisa, talk to me, I beg of you" He said holding her hands which were slightly cold in his. He had worked hard to secure friendship with Mellisa and didn't wish to let it go no matter what.
"Get out!" Lissa commanded. He had been persisting for half an hour now and she was in no mood for that. When she had refused to open the door for him, she never thought that he would use the spare key to open the door nor did she think that he would stick around after everything, the reason unknown to her, maybe he wanted to rub salt to the wound.
" You know that I'm going no where untill we discuss this."
"What is there to discuss? All I did was to trust you but you..but you like them, you broke my trust."she retort. Lissa wondered if her parents were still awaken. Even if they were awaken, they wouldn't have stopped David from entering her room, after all, 'he was like a son' to them. Infact she often thought that the love they had for him was greater than that they had for her.
"Even in my worst dreams, I don't think of that. I will never do such a thing. Please believe me, I love you and I will never betray you."
"You were the only one I informed. Who told them if it wasn't you? I'm not that gullible to believe you. Now get out and never show your face to me again. My worst sin was knowing you."
"You are right, I was the only one you informed, but who knows, they might have done something. Please give me a chance to prove my innocence and do not push me away. I promise to prove my innocence." David said as balls of tears roll from his eyes.
"Ha ha ha..." Lissa laughed sarcastically "...so you think that I will give you more chance to lie to me? It is simple to prove your innocence, all you need do is to go to them, make them lie that you are innocent and tah dah, I give you another chance to get close to me and you hurt me again." Lissa said rolling her eyes balls. She was getting tire with the 'discussion'. Why couldn't he let go, he had accomplished his mission, what was he hoping to gain again?
"Lissa please give me another chance..."David said kneeling down to beg.
"And then I forgive you because you are kneeling." She said sarcastically "You know, it is very funny. Close the door on your way out. I feel tire and my body needs the rest." Lissa said, getting up from the bed to sit by the window.
"Lissa please..."
"Leave, I need to figure this out myself, quietly." Lissa said in a hard tone cutting David off from completing his statement.
"Okay...good night..." He walked to the door broken "...Lissa, I love you and you will always be my best friend" He added and left the room while closing the door behind him.
As Lissa sat by the window, she wondered......
