I was doing better than I thought. Lo'ak was strong. He pulls me alongside the river. I can feel the current around me. It was like a warm blanket. The coral on the bottom felt like the grass of the earth. We swim up for a breath.

"You doing good?" Lo'ak asked.

"Better than I thought." I say.

"You look like a wounded fish."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

I splash him. He laughs. He splashes me back. I feel calm and happy. A feeling that I have not felt in ten years. I never thought I could feel happy again. Ever since the Sky People took me, I didn't think I could feel happiness again. I guess that changed.

We get to the shore.

"That was fun. First time I felt happiness." I say.

"I feel it everyday with my family." Lo'ak said.

The human they call Spider came through the trees. He wore a mask to block out our air. I stand up. I back away. Even though Neteyam told me he's not a monster, I cannot see that. All humans are the same. Humans tortured me for ten years.

"Lo'ak we should get back." Spider said.

He looks at me. I hiss at him.

"Temen, ohe am ke'u like the hì'i People." Spider said to me.

(Temen, I am not like the Sky People)

"Ngenga tukru our language, txìm ngenga are born from demons." I hiss.

(You speak our language, but you are born from demons.)

"Let's get back before we get into trouble." Lo'ak said.
