Your Speeches Make Me Sick

 Enid's POV

"Ok so Weds," she said as soon as she woke up and saw both Thing and Wednesday busy, Wednesday at her typewriter and Thing with little squares of paper, doing his own thing, whatever he did in his free time.

"I told you not to call me that." Wednesday's typing didn't stop.

"We need to do a DNA test on the hair to see who the murderer is," Enid said.

 "I'm aware."

"So how exactly do we get ahold of a DNA test?" asked Enid.

"I was just going to tell you," said Wednesday, stopping typing to turn and face Enid. "We are going to rob the A.S.C., Enid." Enid was confused, not knowing what this was; evidently it showed on her face, because Wednesday sighed, slowed down by the fact that she had to explain things once again. "The Advanced Science Cupboard, Enid, which holds all ingredients to the most advanced of science tests. They only take the best, which explains why you aren't in that class and don't know what it is. I couldn't get in because I came mid-term."

"Well if it's advanced how do we rob it?" said Enid.

"WE don't rob it. ONE of us robs it. The OTHER is a DECOY."

"I already don't like this... Weds, can we just go hang out and do something fun?" Enid wheedled.

"How many people do you want to die, Enid? Tyler... then Eugene, and Ajax... what if it's Yoko next? Xavier? And you knew you had the opportunity to stop it but didn't take it? Could you really let Yoko die because-"

"Weds, I get the point," said Enid. "We're literally best friends, though, I even said I loved you and then saved your live, so are you seriously going to throw me out there as a decoy and try and get me to be so stupid the entire school comes out to watch me humiliated?"

"No," said Wednesday. "You are going to be safe and sound inside the school with no one else and nothing to make you sad or angry or anything." she sounded reassuring, but Enid realized that meant Wednesday, whose arm was barely holding up, would have to go and humiliate herself out there.

"No, Weds, I'll decoy," said Enid. "Your arm-"

"-Will be fine," said Wednesday stiffly. "I'll deal with the pain."

"It won't be fine," said Enid. "You shivered last night when it started bleeding again."

"I don't shiver," said Wednesday, turning away to hide the steady spread of pink the exact color of the stupid flower vest thing Enid was wearing. Enid knew she was blushing, even though she was turned away to hide the color in her pale cheeks. "Nor did I wake up shivering, Enid."

"I know. That's because when I crawled up from the bottom of the bed and hugged you, you stopped," said Enid. Wednesday opened her mouth and was in the middle of a "Enid don't you dare keep hugging me, tell anyone and your dead body will join Aja-" when Enid cut her off. "Weds. Stop. It's fine. You're pretty even when you sleep, especially with your hair down, and you smelled good and everything, don't worry about it."

"I'm not worried," said Wednesday, still hiding her face. "I don't worry."

"I know," said Enid softly. "That's what I saw when I met you. You didn't worry about a single thing, you didn't care if the whole world blew up. A lot of people hide their feelings, but you actually don't show any of them even when they overwhelm you... I can tell, Weds, I can look in your eyes and see it. Now you've changed, you have feelings, you let your hair down. You let your GUARD down. You show it, for me. I made you blush, I know it, Weds, and I'll keep doing it, because I'm your friend. So for once, please, show me yourself. Show me the Wednesday underneath the calm and the black. Show me the side of you no one else sees, no one else but me. Come on, Wednesday, you need someone to open up to, and I'm that person, I just know it, because I know exactly what you're feeling and I feel it too."

"Your speeches make me sick," said Wednesday, but there was still pink on her cheeks and Enid could tell, as she had for the past week, that everything from Wednesday was an empty threat. "It's... impossible," said Wednesday, panicking as Enid began slowly advancing. Wednesday left her chair to back against a wall. "I... even I don't know what... what I'm feeling."

"Then let me show you," Enid said softly.

 "Stay away-give me space, Enid-"

"Weds, you know you love me-"

"Enid, I will murder you and throw your body off the balcony-"

Enid didn't listen. Wednesday was finally here, within her reach, and Enid had realized that the 'I love you' had been genuine... that she literally cared about her roommate so much she could have never imagined anything like this the day Wednesday walked in and declared she was allergic to color.

"Enid." A knife was unsheathed from Wednesday's pocket. "Step back." The knife's point was quivering at Enid's throat... Enid had never seen Wednesday's hand quiver before, never seen it shake like this. God how love hit her hard then. Enid knew Wednesday would never deliberately hurt her, but just in case Wednesday was overwhelmed and did it accidentally, she reached out for Wednesday's hand.

Their eyes met, and Wednesday had a moment of hesitation before the knife tip went in-which gave Enid just enough time to act. The werewolf grabbed Wednesday's fist, which was clenched around the knife, with her left hand, and pinned it above Wednesday's head against the wall, hilt toward her. Wednesday's other hand reached up quick to free it, but Enid in the split second barely managed to pin both hands.

"I love you too, Weds," said Enid quietly.

"I know," Wednesday whispered. "But let me go-"

"Don't ruin the moment, idiot," said Enid. She saw the softness on Wednesday's face; obviously no one had insulted her like that before, and the sheer affection of it finally got her to show Enid her soft spot. God, she was pretty. Her hair was even still down... an added bonus.

Enid drew slowly closer until Wednesday closed her eyes in defeat, and then leaned in... and Enid kissed her.
